I read this some time ago & failed to leave a comment saying how much I adored it. Just like Severus being so subtle she can’t even tell. Just like Hermione to figure out the most puzzling conundrum of awkward, shy, courting Severus. My very VERY favorite—the 2 most brilliant swotty intellectuals reduced to monosyllables & talking about the earth-shattering significance of their next dinner together. I also love that Hermione doesn’t tell him exactly what will happen if he kisses her—she’s just invites him to do so.

I can totally see Severus being old fashioned, especially when it comes to her because it would seem crass to push himself on her. And I can see him being such a sneaky Slytherin that she doesn't realize for a while. I knew what was going to happen and yet the tension in the watch scene is so real I still got all gigglely and fluttery.

I love the awkwardness, the friendship, the thoughtful gift, and Hermione working out what he seems to be doing.

I love awkwardness between these two. It's much more in character than the mad, experienced passion that plagues so many stories.

Oh how lovely! I'd love a telling of this story from Snape's POV. Probably despairing at her Griffindor insensitivity to subtlety. Working up the gumption to ask her to dance. Taking the morsel of her kiss on his cheek and agonizing at its meaning. "She's an affectionate friend. He's seen it before with Potter and Weasley" Finally to know that she understood and accepted his affection. Giving a watch symbolizes that she wishes to spend more time with him, and she made them a matched set. He'd know how much effort it would take to add the spell work and decide she had some it over the weekend. It would be a heady gesture for him.
