Reviews for The Honor of the Wild Horse
jgkitarel chapter 5 . 12/31/2019
Ranma's observation of the strawman argument that Houseman, yes, he's a strawman character, was interesting. Weber isn't averse to using strawman chatacter, especially intellectuals who normally don't have the life experiences that the other characters do. Keep in mind, he applies this more to those whose degrees don't require the kind of field experience some other (including some soft subjects) do. And he is willing to target both sides of the aisle.

Granted, I've met people like Houseman, though most types like him wouldn't allow themselves to get so trapped. If they're getting out debated, they simply back off, rather than double down and continue to dig themselves deeper and make themselves look like complete idiots, rather than someone who is simply overly specialized in their field and falling into the trap of the numerous logical fallacies he ended up using.

Academics aren't immune to them, but they are also taught to be VERY wary of the very logical fallacies he made use of. Given his implied age and the level of education, he should have known better.

I was quite happy to see this updated. It's too bad that it's so short, but I hope that you do decide to keep going with it soon. I'm actually rather enthusiastic to see how this, quasi-realistic version of ranma goes forward into the honorverse.
erik chapter 5 . 3/27/2018
Still a great read that leaves me wondering how Ranma will affect dealings with the Masadans.

Guest chapter 5 . 11/5/2017
Fun fact. Ranma can solve a long time Grayson riddle. Why the hell orginal colonialists brought along kudzu. Also when he looks at a Grayson sword. He can say that's not right
AnFan-n-More chapter 5 . 10/24/2017
Thanks for the update! I look forward to reading any of this story you post. I enjoyed that series, and Weber's work in general, a great deal. So far this has been an nice reminder of that and a nice change of pace for a Ranma story. I look forward to the next chapter.

Very nice job on the new chapter, I hope to read more soon.

Blackholelord chapter 5 . 10/22/2017
First its good to see you updating again on this story.

Your note about jumping into everything in the books, that is for good reading, but you know that. The style of naval warfare used in the book series. While a space series, the ship battle would been submarine style combat if not for the fact all the guns are at the sides of the ships, and the guns are missile launchers. The type of navel ship that fought like that would be the old sailing pre-iron warships, the galleons with the cannons on the sides. Where ships would move side by side in hopes of getting a lucking hit, before moving to the side and basting each other.
shugokage chapter 5 . 10/21/2017
