Reviews for One Wrong Step
Reviewer chapter 40 . 6/3
I'm so glad I didn't bother reading the whole story after seeing the ending. Rey and Poe? You should have warned us by putting Poe in the description. I wouldn't have started the story at all had I seen that ridiculous sorry, but this is amateur work-the characters have no depth, there is barely any conflict at all. This can be seen in the beginning-when Rey gets Anakin not to kill the sand people. Star wars isn't a cartoon-Anakin's rage was justified, his grief too big to be abated with one sentence. And Rey and Ren just tagged along for the ride-simply stupid-there is no way Dooku would escape with 4 force users battling him. And Rey being abandoned by Ren was lazy writing and he didn't even have a good reason for it. And I just read above that yu had the Jedi allow marriege? Hahahahahahaha. Pigs would fly sooner than they did that.

I'm not really a big fan of the ending, seems too much like a happily ever after, but maybe that's what you're going for. Again, the battle with Sidious was very short and not very satisfying. I was expecting him not blast everyone away at somepoint with the force and have last attempt at turning Anakin. I think the way it ended up, Anakin really had very little involvement in his own redemption, or rather never needing one. This takes away from his character, as it was pretty much just Rey doing everything and it all just worked out great. I mean, the only casualty was Windu, and even most Jedi didn't like him. No heartstrings were pulled, there weren't any steaks as it seemed to be almost certain that the good guys would win for the entire story. People seemed vaguely concerned about Palpatine at some points, but there was barely any focus on it. Most of the revelations happened in the background of the main event, which was just the Clone Wars but with Rey slightly changing every episode. I think overall this work was composed well, as in there were only a couple spelling mistakes and such, but it was kind of boring. I'm all for political intrigue, or even occasional fluff text, but the story didn't really peak. The entire story seemed to just be (slightly) rising action, and then suddenly everything was ending in the second to last chapter with little forewarning. There wasn't a question of how the characters would turn out, and while the characters changed, it wasn't their own character developement, it was the inserted Rey just figuring everything out for everyone.

Maybe you just don't like writing fight scenes or jusf find writing them less comfortable, but almost a quarter of a chapter for braiding? I'm confused on the priorities of what's being displayed here. All of the fights you've written so far have been pretty short, or described in significantly less detail than other parts of the story so I'm inclined to believe my hypothesis is correct. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it just means that character deaths, even of bad guys, generally haven't had any satisfaction in them. That's why the villains last so long in series (in part), because the death is so much more rewarding than if they die quickly and immediately. So maybe an improvement in the future is to either have your heroes more grievously wounded, to up the steaks of the battle, or to just prolong the scenes to make them more entertaining.

Savage Oppress too? Ok, this is getting ridiculous. Not only is one of the coolest characters introduced, he's not even inherently evil. Such a lackluster ending too, just an acknoledgement he'a dead. That sucks, for such an interesting character to get barely on offscreen death note. I'm starting to dislike where this is going, starting to think this is going to be one if those works where nothing really goes wrong. You know you can have a happy ending and still have tension, right?

I see you've carried on the Sequel's tradition of Rey's inability to lose. The story's premise is the only reason I'm going to finish reading this, because I was really hoping for more depth ti her character this time. At least you've fixed her complete lack of a meaningful background, that I appreciate. But yeah, I guess Rey's just better than everybody and kills Grevious.
