The BionicFrog chapter 60 . 8/8 Welp, here we are... after over three and a half years, I've finally finished this story. I feel... sad. xD We'll start with this chapter itself, which I felt like was a pretty satisfying end to the whole adventure. She's finally back, she survived, and their lives are changing for the better, at least partially thanks to the strength she found from her adventures and her friends in the Dragon Realms. It really feels like the right kind of close to put on the whole thing. And I have to say, I'm glad the memories of it are at least somewhat still around, and with the sword and the drawing its clear it all really happened. The character growth from it all and the positive change her friends made would still be important and real either way, but I like it this way regardless. As for the story as a whole... wow. Just wow. I may not be any sort of prolific reader, but this is certainly one of my favorite stories I've ever read. I felt captivated the whole way through, and especially towards the later parts of the story, it does such a good job of making me feel the things that Ever feels. The sadness, the pain, the hope, all of it. It may be partially because my journey with this story was so long itself, but the last few chapters in particular, the feeling of having to face an end that was both a long time coming and all too soon at the same time, it really hit home. In those moments of having to make the choice to leave, of wanting to stay but knowing she had to see this end through, I felt like I could relate so well. It captured those feelings for me more than I've often felt from anything. From the lore you built into the world, to the extra character added to the Guardians (all of them, I might add, whereas in a lot of stories some of them tend to get overlooked), to all the characters of your own, so much in this story was just great. It all felt like it fit with the established world and characters very well, while building on it in a really meaningful way. The new characters in particular, as much as I loved your Guardians, are what really sold this story. Ever and her misfit friends, Auren and Tyren in particular, Addison, Zara, and heck, even Tarrok. You brought out so much character in all of them, and they all feel like believable, real pieces of the world. It's been a long, emotional journey. One I'm sad to see the end of, but one that was worth it every step of the way. This story really means a lot to me now, both because it was so good and because its been with me so long, and it's certainly a story I won't ever forget. |
GoldenGriffiness chapter 60 . 7/28 This was really good :) You've grown a ton as a writer, can't wait to read more of your stuff ongoing. Well done! |
The BionicFrog chapter 59 . 7/28 She actually did it. I'm glad to see that she's alive, certainly, but... Wow. I mean it was the decision she'd already made, she couldn't have turned back after everything. I know her life will be better now, after everything she's learned and all she's grown here. I just can't believe she's actually gone. The description was really good as always. I really like the White Isle, the picture painted of The Chronicler and his home. Of Ever's struggle to hold on, keep moving just a little bit longer. Of the world between as she flies away. Only one more left... After all the time she's spent there, after all the time I've spent reading this story, the journey is finally at its end. |
GoldenGriffiness chapter 51 . 7/28 This chapter really got to me, well done there. Have to wonder why Warfang in the games didn't have better emergency plans, though. All those tunnels if they could have been cleared out could have been a excellent safe haven. |
GoldenGriffiness chapter 42 . 7/28 Wow, this was a very good chapter. I never took much time to think of the gaurdians as child raisers, and it makes a lot of sense. |
GoldenGriffiness chapter 37 . 7/26 "Hmph." The ice Guardian looked at her. "You really know how to choose 'em, don't you?" "Sure do. It's why I'm friends with you." This is a great exchange :) |
Guest chapter 22 . 7/26 I like the implication here that Dante's Freezer is named after a dragon :) This is really good Toodles, sorry it took so long for me to get to reading it. |
The BionicFrog chapter 58 . 7/8 I'm going to cry. I don't even know what else to say. I knew something big still was going to happen but I wasn't expecting you to kill her... I mean, maybe she'll survive still, somehow, but it doesn't sound like it from the ending line... She saved Ignitus, at least. So her story won't die even if she does. But I'm still going to cry. ;_; |
The BionicFrog chapter 57 . 6/14 This chapter was fun. It still left me feeling kinda sad, one step closer to then end, but I really liked it. The sailing part was really entertaining, I like Saewin. xD It was interesting too, leaving Warfang again after all this time, seeing the sights of the world again and wandering through the quite forest. Not that the story needed a change of pace, I would have been happy in Warfang forever, but something about it is nice. The ending was nice too. No matter what happens, we can always leave a story behind. I hope it makes a difference, to the world or at least to someone. I know it will to the Guardians, and to Tyren. Sometimes that's enough. |
The BionicFrog chapter 56 . 6/9 I'm crying. ;_; I mean, everything is left rather nicely, she's said what she needs to say, had her last week with her family. But it just feels so... sad. I can really feel it, the march towards the end of the life she's come to know, the last pasues to look over the home she'll never see again. I can really feel every bit of it, and I want as badly as she does to run back inside, for it to never end. But, all stories must, I suppose. I have no idea what lies ahead of them in these last four chapters, but I'm sure she'll be able to face it. I can feel her resolve as well, the will to see this through now that her mind is made up. Whatever this journey has left, I'm sure it'll be enough to see her through. |
The BionicFrog chapter 55 . 6/3 Well I'm intrigued by this future vision thing... Hardly seems like there's time in the story left for her to stick around for an altered version of the whole of DotD but I guess we'll see. xD This chapter is making me sad. I mean it isn't really sad overall, but I really feel what she's feeling. A lot has happened, we're well over 100k words in, and I mean heck I've been reading for ages. And yet the idea that it's almost over... It feels soon. And it makes me sad. But, there's five chapters left, and I'll be very interested to see where the last legs of her journey take her. Great as always~ |
The BionicFrog chapter 54 . 5/5 Wow this chapter actually made me really happy. I'm glad they're healing, and it has a really nice sentiment at the end. I was scared the whole time he was going to suddenly fall more ill again or something but thankfully that's not the case, at least for now. The memory segment was really interesting, I like the way you described Ignitus using his powers and the look inside her mind. It was cool. I should probably have more to say but that's all that comes to mind. I really liked the chapter though. xD |
The BionicFrog chapter 53 . 4/26 *cries* Why would you do thissssssssssssss I'm sad. ;_; I mean at least he isn't dead, for now at least. If you kill him too I'm going to be very upset. Plz no. The frequent foreshadowing in this chapter that something bad was about to happen was painful, I was very scared. Why do you do this to me. Also I don't know how you handle the passage of time so well, but it's impressive. You pass through multiple days without any scene breaks or anything and it just works. The flow of the story in general is just really good. Seriously though stop being so mean. :c |
The BionicFrog chapter 52 . 4/16 I'm sad. :C This chapter is nice, it's about as happy as could ever be expected after the last one, and it's nice to have a respite before whatever other terrible things you probably have planned. The story continues on, almost strangely normally, but with a constant backdrop of sadness, which perfectly captures the emotions of the situation. Life just kinda keeps going, even when so much has changed or been lost that it feels like it should just stop. The chapter has its highs and lows, I'm glad it seems like Tyren will at least eventually be able to be okay, but it carries this almost monochrome feeling of sadness the whole way. The deep kind of sadness that you don't feel as much on the surface, but creeps its way into everything else you do or think or feel. It's not too hard to make a character seem sad, but carrying that kind of deeper emotional tone the whole way no matter what's actually going on in a given scene takes a certain level of subtle detail that's a good bit harder to pull off well. It's done impressively here. It does end on a more hopeful note after all that though, which makes me happier. But still sad. :c |
The BionicFrog chapter 51 . 2/14 I should have stopped at chapter 50 ;_; I knew you were going to do this to one or the other of them at some point, but that doesn't make me any less sad. You suck. :c But not at writing, the emotions and things are really well portrayed and all that, and the descriptions in general. It makes it that much easier to be SAD. :C |
