OH BOY IT'S ABOUT TO GET EXCITING. The thought of Alex whisking Astra away to protect her from General Lane just fills me up with happy, anticipatory jitters. And not including Kara in her dangerous plans while putting herself at risk is just so her? Because Alex is always about protecting Kara - even escaping with Astra is kind of about protecting Kara, and like. Even if she knows Kara would be devastated, it's still better than Kara being targeted by General Lane and the US government. She's risking both herself and her relationship with the most important person in her life. And it just. Hits me in the heart. I love the way you write Alex Danvers, and I can't wait to see where this goes!

The emotions man, the emotions! I just love everything about this? Kara's fear of losing Astra, and Alex's guilt over rescuing her from the Black Mercy, and her subsequent determination to protect her from any more loss. J'onn turning a blind eye to Alex going rogue because he's a good Space Dad and understands deep loss on a personal level. The heartwarming flashback. The suspense of the Myriad storyline. There's so much going on in the story that you pull off perfectly and the dynamics between these characters feel wonderfully authentic.

I think we've known each other for almost a decade, and I've always been in awe of your talent and storytelling ability. This story proves that that's not about to change anytime soon.

Another excellent chapter, which hopefully begins Astra’s recovery/redemption. But as sad as I am for Kara, I couldn’t help but giggle at this part:

“...and then there was the metal chair embedded in the wall.

Maintenance was going to be thrilled about that.”

Which was a nice sliver of comedy in an otherwise sad chapter. One thing I love is how you give Kara time to process, even if she feels scared and small and needs some emotional support.

Well I’m heartbroken and it’s all your fault. But you’ve also reinvested me in Kara’s character and made me feel excruciating things on her behalf. So there’s that.

It’s fics like these that make me realize how rarely fanon does Kara justice. Beneath that bubbly optimism is a girl who’s faced devastating loss, and that vulnerability is on display here and it makes what actually happens in canon all the more gut-wrenching. Alex being protective of Kara is 33333. Their connection is everything, and I love the way you portray them.

What really gets me is how on-point your characterization is, and how true to form each character’s thought process is. I could absolutely see this happening in the show, and it makes me sad that they didn’t keep this familial connection for Kara and give Astra a redemption arc stemming from her love for Kara. I’m 120% invested in this fic and can’t wait to see what happens next!

So I’m kicking myself for not checking FFN in addition to AO3 because this is amazing. You’re so great at fight scenes and at letting us feel exactly what Alex feels. You do an excellent job at selling the emotions here - and yes, I absolutely believe that Kara is the common ground between them, and that that connection would make her more amenable to an alliance. I love the characterization of Alex as being emotionally perceptive and a good negotiator. That’s one aspect of her I enjoy that often gets ignored in fic in favor of the whole trigger-happy rogue agent shtick.

You’ve got me hooked already! And if you decide to post this on AO3, I think you’ll definitely find an appreciative audience. Thank you sooo much for writing this! I’m reminded of just how much I love your writing.
