Interesting story, please carry on. Maybe have a story with them getting to know Ryan? Their dealing with Dawn?

I'm glad that you're watching, listening and that this got in your head. You've captured Ryan extremely well, right down to his body language and subtle expressions that convey far more very quietly than any unnecessary words. However different Kirsten is by being polite and attentive to him instead of how she actually was, and was for years more or less, you still nail some essential aspects of her character that make her interaction with Ryan believable and seem genuine. Now I'll be looking for some kind of resemblance between the actors and characters beyond obvious traits like eye color! I always thought that Ryan could pass for a relative of Kirsten's very easily. I wish you'd get a whole lot more of this in your head, so please keep an open mind? Thanks!

For Giving Tuesday, how about maybe giving some more of this? Great premise to take the original in another direction and not really so far-fetched, at least I always was struck by how much Ryan looked like Kirsten and seemed more like he should fit than Seth ever did. Then again, part of Ryan's survival mechanism had to be adapting, or else.

Thanks for this, but I'll hope for more to come.

Update please

I really like the alternate approach based on several very realistic possibilities and aspects of Ryan that are very true to character, whoever he was cursed to have as parents. Have you thought of going further?
Guest chapter 1 . 11/18/2016
This is a twist that I didn't expect, but isn't so far-fetched in some ways. Ryan does look an awful lot like Kirsten and despite a very abusive, traumatic background, he looks very Newport when he sheds his Chino hand-me-downs. It's more than appearances though, and I'm not saying that half of a gene pool makes a difference and cancels out 15 horrible years or wipes out Dawn, but credit to Ryan for having the strength of character to rise above where he'd been trapped at the mercy of the others. He's also a survivor who can manage to blend in, which has to take a lot of energy and quick thinking. Most of all, he could teach so many, like Caleb and Newport's social set, plenty about integrity and ethics. That's not through any contribution of Caleb's at any point, but in spite of it. I'd really like to see where you'd take this with Ryan and what could be his new family, and how that might change relationships, dynamics and perceptions, although it still wouldn't be easy. The hardest battles to deal with would be the ones closest and all of those questions. Maybe? Please?

Thanks for writing.

I know that you've made this a one chapter story, but you've really tapped into some great potential for a gold mine here. Turning the tables with Kirsten and Caleb when it comes to Ryan and starting with some of the obvious, like how Ryan looks so much like a Nichol and like a Newport kid, so much more than Seth ever has, and also replacing the hostility and what that could have meant opens so many possibilities.

Maybe reconsider?

Thanks!
