Shanks definitely has a complex way of thinking, that's for sure.

I found this comment on Youtube from a few years ago regarding Shanks.

I don't think anybody would be able to move on if Red-Haired were to lose his life next. He's destined to clash with Blackbeard again, but my gut tells me that their next encounter may as well be their last. Shanks wouldn't be just fighting the man who left 3 scars on his face, he'd also be fighting the power of Whitebeard, the closest man after Roger to acquiring One Piece.

Whitebeard's death may have caused an unbalance in the New World.. But if Shanks were to die, then the entire world would turn upside down. And the man behind that destruction would be none other than Straw Hat Luffy.

I'm pretty damn sure many people noticed that Shanks purposely lost his arm, but it never occured to me that we could write about it. And yours is a job well done! I just came across it randomly. Also, if I can, I suggest you read fics written by akurosa and Taisi. They are damn good writers!

Not gonna lie I'm kinda sad to see it over. This was really well written and I so into the story. Also I kinda stood up and cheered when I got to the end because of the pirate king part and man oh man do I love the idea of Shanks giving up his arm for a reason.

Personally im pretty sure its because the author planned on ending one piece in 5 years and didnt realize it be and popular as it is (18 years )
So the characaters werent going to be as expanded on as they are. But still pretty good story and it seems like a reason the author would use
