This is amazingly sweet and touching. You packed quite the punch with so few words.

I kind of want a sequel to this now. Like really. I want to see what happened after he had gotten the surgery. I can only imagine his unit being completely dumbstruck upon learning that the Colonel didn't have the money to pay for the surgery but a nurse had paid it for him, all because of three packs of pain killers and veggie soup that he had bought for him twenty yearso ago.
