Too real.

Too goddamn real.

Oh my.
Anna Marcelli Palmer chapter 1 . 9/19/2016
I am not a fan of the HP series, never cared about J.K.R. or her characters. But it is a criminal offence whenever stories of that caliber get no reviews or exposure, especially when it comes to an overcrowded and thriving community like HP.

I am flabbergasted. I don't know much about the fandom, but I suspect that doesn't comprise much of a problem, since most good "dark" writers on ffnet generally dress original concepts up as fanfics (myself included, and I am not even a good writer, duh.) The writing flows smoothly and the vocabulary is rich without seeming fake. The dialogue is lively but not overdone. The imagery is cinematic. Every line of the text oozes reality. Extra kudos for managing to write in third person without overusing words like he, she, her his, herself, etc etc. It is something I never accomplish myself and admire in other people's prose.

I love the non-attached and aloof feel of the text, imbued in elegant melancholy. There is a disconcerting absense of purpose throughout the story, which is probably the scope here. I like her thoughts, identify with her ordeal and her questions. But she somehow stays a riddle anyway, the climax being the "disappearance" as soon as the camera readjusts. I loved that part. I also loved the "epilogue"-it saddened me in a multitude of ways, all of which were inexplicable even to me.

If I had to make one complaint, it would be the fact that some of her reflections seem disjointed and too rhetorical. The text is deep, yes, but some of the dialogue and thoughts were rather self-indulgent (if I get my point across) and less relevant to the actual main theme.

Writing goals. I was given writing goals.
