Lamarquise chapter 9 . 6/5 This is ridiculous, and anybody who's had any practical experience with the law and politics can tell you why. But fanfic writers tend to be armchair analysts who believe in unicorn governments and wouldn't have to live with laws like the Accords. Do people not care that the Accords would put that kind of power and control in the hands of a handful of unelected officials and bureaucrats who'd have no clue about handling novel threats to world security and answer to nobody and probably be untouchable, politically and in terms of both civil liability and criminal punishment? Do people not care about the countless ways the Accords could and assuredly would be used to harm and exploit enhanced people, not to mention the civil rights and due process implications of just what was shown on screen? Not to mention the incredible corruption and incompetence shown repeatedly by the military, SHIELD, and others-including the U.N.-just in the MCU movies? The movie downplayed the practical implications of the Accords so Tony's position wouldn't look completely unreasonable. Steve was absolutely right to draw a line and say "no, you move," and the only Avengers who didn't get that were the ones with the most questionable judgment and who were among the least likely to be held to what they signed...with perhaps the sole exception of Natasha who could have had any number of reasons or agendas. Some things you can't afford to give up for some illusion of safety or protection. T'Chaka and T'Challa were big flaming hypocrites. Tony was the one who kept pushing and pushing until the Team shattered. He was fixated on this idea that the Accords would somehow "save" the Team, despite copious evidence at about every point along the way that the Accords would only destroy the Team and its relationships and operational effectiveness. Tony tacitly admitted, when Steve challenged him, that the idea of revising the Accords was a pipe dream. Not unless Tony was willing to join the others in opposing the Accords and creating leverage to bring the U.N. to the bargaining table. Steve would have walked away, but couldn't when the U.N. went after a little guy who was going to be destroyed by the system and made a scapegoat for everything if someone didn't intervene...and Steve was the only one with the ability and will to step in. He would have done the same for Tony or any of the others. I could go on a rant about how Bucky was treated and how he was hung out to dry and would have been killed in custody or used yet again to wreak havoc had he been captured again. The U.N. had a chance and botched it big time when they had Bucky the first time; they couldn't be trusted a second time. But Tony couldn't let it go. Couldn't let them walk away when a highly public fight was the predictable but worst possible outcome. Then there's the Bucky issue. Whatever happened, and however Steve handled that, Tony knew Bucky had done all he did under the influence of highly effective mind control and Bucky wasn't posing any threat to anyone. Tony didn't have the legal or moral right to attack and kill the guy. It wouldn't change anything, and in a civil society we're not allowed to play judge, jury, and executioner. Steve was right from the first: Tony was a loose cannon who couldn't be trusted with the truth and nothing Steve could have done differently would likely have prevented a similar outcome. He was actually trying to be a better friend than Tony understood and keep Tony from crossing lines Tony couldn't come back from. What would have happened if Bucky or Tony had been seriously damaged or killed in a fight? What then? What chance of peace or unity then? Tony put Steve in a no-win situation, where Tony was attacking and Steve had to take a side and end the fight. So Steve did. And Steve was the one in the wrong here? Just shaking my head here. |

ElnaKernor chapter 6 . 2/8/2018 I don't know if someone did that already so, as a dutiful frenchwoman, here is a better alternative for the french part ( not bad, by the way, but just a bit too much of a word for word translation ): "Aidez-nous. Est-ce que vous aller nous aider?" "Je vous aiderai." "Il y a une bombe dans le bâtiment officiel / de la capitale ( depends on what you actually meant there, I'm not sure ). Notre président... On ne peut pas arriver à temps." "Moi si." |
