This is very sweet and I can actually see Jayne being protective of Kaylee - in the pilot he's very much an older brother, teasing and embarrassing her, then later being very worried about her after she's been shot, as evidenced by the way he was sort of watching/hiding outside the infirmary window.

So I thought my favorite ship was Mal/Inara or Simon/Kaylee, but no. As it turns out my heart secretly desired a Jayne&Mal/Kaylee fatherly figure/protection piece! I loved this so much. In a way I wasn't entirely expecting. Plus, I love that in Mal's creepiness (i.e. stalking), he comes off protective, not at all creepy. And Jayne! I love his shirt, and the fact that Vera sounds the same as the hatch to his bunk, almost as if he had planned it that way. Hehe, I just love the overall sense of love this piece is portraying. I am definitely adding this to my favorites.

Omg! "tear off all your appendages if only to beat you to death with them" had me in tears I was laughing so hard. well done would love to read more. Would be really great if you could explore the gradual relationship beetween mal and kaylee. Why he thinks hes so protective and why he never fought it. I would love to read that.

Good story, not really how protective jayne ever was, but still liked your take on it.

One word...brilliant! I love this. I can so see Mal acting like the protective dad and listening in on Kaylee each night to make sure she's safe. Very Mal-ish. And Jayne! OMG! I adored that! Mal be the protective dad for Kaylee, but Jayne is definitly the tough ol' big brother for her. Poor Simon. I hope he'll be able to safely navigate around those two. Kaylee is such a lucky young woman!

I really love the over-protectiveness of the two men, especially Jayne, because it seems so un-Jayne while still being very Jayne-ish. I know, I make no sense. "Hurt her and I will tear off all your appendages if only to beat you to death with them. There won’t be enough left for a Reaver to snack on, dong ma?" So much can be portrayed just through one glare. Brilliant. (one last thing: Mind reading my first and only Firefly fic? You seem like a big fan and I know you're a good author, so...Please?) Anyways, I think there was one other line that I really liked...“That tickles! I’m gonna get you, mister!”

Good grief.' Just the idea of Mal saying that at all makes me grin, plus Kaylee being all cutesy and him sort of rolling his eyes in so in-character. Great job and sorry bout the shameless request. (Though it still stands)

I loved the idea of Mal spying on Kaylee, something that feels like it happens in the show. Mal's thoughts, perfect, you captured him from brown hair to spacepants. When sneering Jayne turned up, that gave me a little thrill of delight. v. good.

aww so cute. i love them being all protective. i think kaylee makes a cute couple with any of them.
