Fabulous story. It was hard to see Chakotay be so heartless, but this is a realistic and very creative AU of Caretaker. I don't think the show did a good job of showing the intensity of emotions-rage being one of the most universal-that everyone, including Chakotay would feel at being stranded in the Delta Quadrant. I especially loved this last chapter where the exhausted Janeway and a Chakotay who is seeing clearly what went wrong, reach out to create a good path forward. Can't wait to read Blind Trust, but must save it for a reward later after I make more progress on my project.

I really liked this story.

Quite a interesting reversal: Especially with Kathryn Janeway's and Chakotay's thoughts on it.

It is a little confusing to follow who I is. But, soon enough, it becomes clear enough.

I honestly kind of wish it ended a little differently.

But, overall, it feels like this could have been the first season of Voyager. And, a even better one.

This needs a sequel now

An interesting second use of the story's title. This was a fascinating AU exploration of the dynamics between early series KJ and Chakotay. Honestly, I prefer a little bit of a darker portrayal of Chakotay - I think it fits a lot more with the man that would abandon Starfleet to fight the Cardassians. I frequently think the series' writers softened his edges to the point of dullness (in every sense of the word...) Thanks for sharing it!

I liked how you ended this story. You tied up the loose ends well. The entire story was a treasure to read and will be re-read many times as all good stories should be.
