Reviews for The Shadow On The Reef
TF2Fan chapter 37 . 4/23
Read this last book.
Bloody Brilliant.
Sorry for the short review, very tired; you have no idea how late I stayed up binge-reading this thing. Oh wait, you're an author, so maybe you do have an idea.
Anyway: Love your work, sad to see this is the last (unless you have some originals somewhere under a different name you wish to point me to... I might be checking your account for activity for the next little while)
PS: An amazing thing about your writing: you give just enough foreshadowing for me to guess what the overall result would be (whether or not someone is permanently dead, who will come to the rescue, etc) which leaves the story somewhat predictable. But THEN you go off in the most brilliant, insidious way as to make it impossible to know how those end results occur! When you want something hidden, it STAYS hidden until you say so! That is what makes your writing style so interesting! The ends are known, but the means are still a mystery. Congratulations: you've solved almost every author's problem of predictability and engagement- by changing the rules. (I'm totally going to steal that trick when I do my own writing, btw...)
PPS: If you're still active, do you think you could make a document outlining any side stories based on your AU that you've come across? I'd love to read them since your world-building is amazing!
writingisrelaxing chapter 1 . 3/9
I left reviews on this as "writingisrelaxing" and "feeling nostalgia" (they are both me) a few years ago. Now I've re-read this for like the third or maybe even fourth time. It's still my favorite series of fanfiction, ever. I love it so much, you can't even imagine. Even though I already knew what was going to happen now, I still enjoyed it a lot. Thanks again for writing this masterpiece, and I hope everything goes well in your life [insert heart emoji here]
TheOtherAlternative chapter 13 . 5/20/2018
Love how you've integrated quantum physics in this chapter. I only left school 5 years ago, and in sixth form I remember at least 2 of our a level science teachers, and 1 of the maths, saying 'these are the lies you need to pass the exam'. If we had time they'd go over the 'truths' but only vaguely. They knew that to the school board grades mattered, not science. Which causes problems later on, plenty of university lecturers complain they have to keep dumbing down courses and spend time reteaching students.
Anyway, it seems I too can rant...
I'm really enjoying the story, can't wait to get to the end. Thank you
Anyar4 chapter 37 . 9/6/2017
Once again, good job. Great job. You made me feel for a French humactopus, the mad inventor of the humactopous, and everyone else.

It's interesting how you can leave tiny plot strings open in one story, then completely ignore it until suddenly, boom, plot twist, remember this guy?

While starting to read this, I began to think, wait a second, what if other 'clones' survived? Were they just left there, starving, most likely unable to drive Sniper's truck, and eventually dead? I did make the mistake of forgetting that each map had a custom killswitch, though, so that hindered a bit.

And then I read this. You don't disappoint.

Last thing of note...

"However, I also didn't have any plans for another story after SPS, so who knows?" -The Author

Truly. Who knows?

Moon Aura chapter 10 . 8/29/2017
Hello! I wanted to tell you that I absolutely love your writing style! The way you describe the settings, the actions, and the characters' thoughts just paints an image in my mind. Also, I was wondering where you got your translations from. Although it makes you happy to get comments on your writings, it makes me even happier to recive responses from you! You are my ablsolute favorite author out of all of the fan fiction websites! Thank you so much for writing these stories!
Moon Aura chapter 11 . 7/26/2017
Hello! I just thought I'd let you know that of all your stories so far this one is my favorite (which was really hard to pick) and my favorite chapters are 7-11. I really liked how you connected all of your stories into one big plot and, I hope you post another story soon! Thank you so much for late night reading material! :)
soturf chapter 1 . 6/19/2017
i just finished all four fanfictions. i have no words. i can't believe it's all over. i would happily read more 500k words about this universe, it's completely fantastic, wonderful, perfect. you have my respect, really.
Titanium Lucas chapter 37 . 1/22/2017
Woops, i forgot to post a review for the final chapter... You can blame the holidays and a lot of work for that.
I think that this ending suits really well with the story. I like that the endings were there, by that i mean that there wasnt one ending which tied everything up.
The story was very interesting and very unique. I dont often see stories like these containing as much factual and scientific knowledge as this story conveys.

Hope another story might emerge from this universe or that a whole new universe may emerge!
Cake Eyes chapter 37 . 1/15/2017
This ending was surprisingly satisfactory, considering the main evil plan was unwittingly thwarted pretty much from the beginning. A great story, and I'm happy everything turned out okay!

I really liked that there was a specific reason why Jacques got tentacles and became a full Tentaspy. In most fics I've read it's the Medic's plan from the start or a wacky respawn accident that needs no explanation.

The nature reserve thing was really heart-warming, and I liked all about the ending. The whole story was great, but it's a pity there was barely any of Jacques' pov after his transformation. There was no explanation why he felt so tired in the beginning (already before radiaton poisoning). He and Erwin had a developing friendship, and then Jacques just let him die with no remorse and they haven't even spoken since.
Cake Eyes chapter 36 . 1/15/2017
Huh. Wasn't expecting that.

I did use to wonder what happened to that Pyro. Guessed they managed to heal him eventually, but how the Administrator explained the random attack on the base when the team reported the incident and so on?

The sheer incompetence of the Institute really astounds me: they left the teleporter there yet didn't bother to send anyone to check if Carmine would set up a new base, they actually bought the Medic's confession when it was clear he pulled it out of his ass, they didn't do Spy-checks on everyone when they first started suspecting there's a traitor at the Institute, and that's just a few things that came to mind.

I used to be convinced the traitor was some outsider who had got a hold of a disguise kit and was impersonating someone at the Institute, I was so sure none of them would intentionally betray them all. After the foreshadowing in the first Pyro pov snippet it was pretty obvious there was at least one Pyro involved. I also thought it would be Jacques discovering the truth about Carmine, but turns out he wasn't even present and Erwin was the first to find out. So congrats for being unpredictable!
Cake Eyes chapter 35 . 1/15/2017
So it's a he, after all. Carmine sounds feminine to me, so I was wondering.
Cake Eyes chapter 34 . 1/15/2017
So he's registered himself in another respawn somewhere?
Cake Eyes chapter 33 . 1/15/2017
I'm relieved Erwin has a plan so he doesn't just want to get killed as an "atonement for his sins" or whatshit.
Cake Eyes chapter 32 . 1/15/2017
This is exactly why I'm only reading this now when I can move straight to the next chapter.
