This chapter was beautiful, all 53 pages of it! Thank you for this wonderful update! I especially love how you're focusing on Koshijiro's life story. It's a fascinating read.

Thank you thank you thank you! I love the entire idea behind this story but more so for telling us Koshijiro's story so beautifully. I never thought I'd love how character so much especially since there was hardly anything about him in the anime. I also love Kyoko's character. It's clear to see that Kaoru inherited her father's love for kenjutsu and her mother's gentleness and excitement for things she is passionate about. Looking forward to the next update

Wow, this chapter was an entire story onto itself, amazingly rich in detail. I love the full characterizations of the family & the friends too. The story of Koshijiro’s mother, the help of the daughter of his first sensei & the determination of Kyoko, all help to show why he would teach & encourage Kaoru. I feel like you captured a lot of her with this backstory too.

The last few lines are amazing and hilarious. They imply that Kenshin heard what Koshijiro said, and promptly ignored it. Koshijiro is already too late on his part, and I think he knows it, just doesn't want to and is living in denial.

it's hard being away from my son although, since he travels for his business, i get to see him sometimes when he's in town. now my daughter and her family are moving across country for their work and i'm going to miss them and the grand kids. i would read letters over and over too.

wow, i like this better because even in his state, aoshi's shouldn't be stupid enough to go work with shishio and since he might try to target shishio before kenshin it might weaken shishio more than if he were to be in the line of fighters kenshin has to defeat before reaching shishio.

lol he doesn't remember kaoru's adoring (?) look at kenshin, i guess that's a good thing.
i'm going to have to do a quick look at the manga and anime to remind myself of these events, they're not mentioned much in many fanfics lol so this senile old lady can remember them.

I really appreciate getting some insight into Koshijiro and his back story. I can see that peasant to Samaria experience would clearly give him a different world view and explain his participation on behalf on the rebels/new Meiji. I can’t help but wonder if Kaoru knows any of this or that Koshijiro, like Kenshin had a different name and simpler status in life as a young child. Another interesting parallel connection between Kenshin & Koshijiro.

Given there's a canon possibility Kaoru's dad is truly alive and well in the Hokkaido arc, this story is such a nice extension. Like a prequel, if you will. ;)
