SyfyGuy2 chapter 26 . 10/2
Heh-heh. A nice new chapter to whet my appetite, with some ominous new twists that make me wonder where this will go! 8o 8o :D

When Phoenix stormed into the cave I was honestly expecting her to start a dark ritual or go to plead to Zotz when she passed the demon-bat trio. It's good to see the demon-bat trio again, and to at last get some hints in the story about what Cabrakan and Zipacna's relationship is like! :) :) :) I do wonder if the brothers care for each-other or not, and I wonder if there'll be a moment in future in the story where one of the heroes threatens one of the brothers or something, that shows whether they care or they're fine with letting the other die. :) I chuckle with glee at Cabrakan's cryptic mention of Zipacna's past blunder. Is that a reference to to Zipacna's backstory that involves a certain brown-haired bat, I wonder... :) :) I very much looking forward to seeing what happens when Zipacna gets motivated and shows us how dangerous he is in the future. :)

I rather loved reading the scene with Goth and Melody, and seeing how not-so-good their attempts at bonding are going after that civil start they were off to before the flashback. :) The way things declined was rather well-executed, and I was somewhat intimidated when Melody hit Goth's berserk button at the end with the "naughty bat" thing. :O Honestly, I chuckled at Goth snatching Melody's amulet and then holding her back as she's trying to grab it off him like they're a pair of children! :'D It was pretty entertaining to read a newlywed Throbb driving Goth nuts in the flashback, :) and I found the description of the hunt rather atmospheric. :) :)

I began suspecting there was more to Goth's band than was being let on when Melody noted how inhumane the band's make was, wondering if it could be that Chavez was involved with whatever company made the band and therefore he was still an influence on the 'Gone Batty' universe even during the first story. :O Still, I was shocked and disturbed alongside Melody by the reveal that Goth and Throbb's bands actually go THROUGH their wings! :O I have to wonder if someone, with Chavez or someone else, had infiltrated Elliot's grandfather's lab this early on to poison him (I believe Elliot's granddad owned the lab where Goth and Throbb were kept in the first story). I suspected what Melody was going to do before she did it, trying to call on Nocturna's magic with her amulet to remove Goth's band, and I was anxious to see how the amulet would react to Goth. I was wondering if its magic would instinctively react negatively to Goth due to his relation to Zotz, or if the amulet would do something that would expose Goth's true identity as Aktun and/or Melody's identity as Seraphina. :) I was stunned and rather terrified by how Melody's hands got burned - the terror because, the way Zotz's magic (assuming the magic that burned Melody came from Zotz) can do that to her the same way Nocturna's magic damaged Phoenix emphasises how the god twins are on equal standing in terms of raw power, making it feel like it's a serious 50-50 probability in-universe about whether good or evil wins in the end. :O What really shocks me is that Goth's band has non-divine magic in it - I really didn't see that coming at all! :O :O I'm wondering how it's possible that Goth's band can do that - is it a dark spell of protection/encasement that Zotz put on Goth merely being channelled through the band, or is it a sign that perhaps humans familiar with magic dabbled with Goth's band before he escaped the fake jungle? :O :O Could it be that Chavez has something to do with Zotz? :O

Wow, Chinook despite his trauma isn't letting go of his old bullying habits easily, and he really does go too far. I was expecting from when Chinook said he heard something that he and Shade were going to bump into one of the other character teams at this point - first I wondered if they were going to run into Itzel and her ladies-in-waiting, or an ambush of vampyrum soldiers, and then for most of the rest of the scene my money was on them reuniting with Melody and Goth. I immediately suspected it was Denise when they were attacked by an owl, and was immediately enthusiastic to see how Denise's first meeting with them would go. :) I honestly thought Denise was just hunting them because she didn't know the two bats were Melody, Elliot and Orestes' friends and she's just adapted that quickly to killing for food, and when she snarled at Elliot I just assumed it was hunting instinct. I didn't twig that something is really wrong until I read the A/N. Ooh, I wonder what's up with Denise, and though I didn't find it that obvious under the circumstances, I do like how you threw it out of the blue! :) :) I'm wondering if Denise is acting this way due to a spell Phoenix has cast from the cave, or because Chavez or his people are nearby and using a high-pitched sonic device like that which hypnotised the bomb-equipped bats and owls, or (and this was my first guess) perhaps Denise has a blood- or tissue-type which, unlike Melody and Elliot, means she risks turning feral after taking the animal-transformation serum if she isn't changed back soon (since Melody and Elliot were the only two who took the serum before now). Ooh, I like forward to finding out... :o :D

A short, but very nice new chapter which had some interesting new twists and turns which make me eager to see what happens next, with Goth's band and with Denise! :) :)

Oh man that sucks Goth's band rejected Melody. I mean seriously! And yeah Denise don't eat those bats, their Melody's best friends! Well Shade is anyway. Thank you thank you thank you Elliot!

Nice Lion King reference.
Icarus636 chapter 26 . 10/1
Yes! I have miss this story!
For the record I completely understand the lack of inspiration, the same happens to me with my own fanfics during this pandemonium. You need to move, to see people, to see and live to get your blood flowing
I enjoyed this chapter inmensily; more so the struggle between Shade and Chinook, a brotherly quarel some may say and then the arrival of Denise... I have Lion king's vibes from that moment and I think that Denise may be letting her instincts take over, she is an owl now, it's in her nature to hunt

And I so ship the couples: Goth & Melody; Shade & Marina; Elliot & Denise
One thing that should come to interest is that if Goth & Melody have children they won't necesarilly be smaller than the vampire spectrums: A pup of a male lion and a female tiger, the liger is much larger than both as the cromosomes that control growth limits are inherited by the female lion and the male tiger.
In any case hope to see the next chapter soon! Take care!
DONOVAN94 chapter 26 . 10/1
This chapter gave me a lot of feelings!
Between Goth and Melody trying to be friends, to the flashback, to trying to take off the band, I was eating this up like an all-you-can-eat-Ice-Cream-Buffet! And then the angst hit and I loved that just as much - You know me, I eat up angst like it's Christmas.

And the whole thing between Chinook and Shade - kind of gave me Lion King vibes at the end there. But yeah, Chinook deserved that punch in the face. And more.

As for a constructive critique, the only issue I could find is that sometimes your narrative voice slips between past and present tense. But honestly, that's about it.

As always, Love it, love you, and I can't wait for more whenever you feel inspired to do so!

Cool! Is there another chapter for this story?
SyfyGuy2 chapter 25 . 3/15
A short but very amazing and jaw-dropping chapter! :O :D I delighted in the new Goth x Melody action! :) :)

When Goth started dreaming, I at first thought he was dreaming back to the moment he saved Melody in the mine in the first book - then when he saw the red light up ahead, I knew what he was heading towards, and I was eager to see what would happen. :) :) A lot of Zotz's sass and quippiness in that scene made me physically laugh or chortle quite loudly! :') :') In spite of the amount of personality Zotz displays, I found myself imagining him with Mark Hamill's voice instead of Tim Curry's (to be honest, I personally couldn't imagine Curry's voice portraying Zotz's mannerisms as well, though that's just me.) And Zotz moving his finger to that imaginary tune made me clearly think of Scar doing the same to 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight'. :'D :'D You know, despite it being all but stated that Goth is really Aktun reincarnated, Zotz telling him about it still took my breath away. :O :O I'm also very much surprised to learn Goliath and Goth had such a toxic relationship (the details by the way, strongly reminded me of Zuko and his dad's relationship, especially the comic sequel's detail about why Ozai started treating Zuko as horribly as he did regarding Ursa's first love interest. :)) Also, Zotz pulling the 'you owe me for conceiving you' card on Zotz delightfully reminded me of Rowena doing the same in 'Supernatural', to the point I could immediately, clearly picture Goth having a similar you're-no-parent-of-mine confrontation with Zotz as Crowley did. :) :) I was pretty uneasy at Zotz's revelation in light of the sacrifice-gathering difficulties that Melody alone would be enough to free him as an alternative to one-hundred mortal sacrifices. :O :O Now I can imagine rather clearly how the scene where Voxzaco tries to drop the bomb might play out in this universe. :O The tension for me was building when Zotz told Goth he could use Nocturna's daughter as the sacrifice, right up to the point he delightfully dropped the dime that Melody was said daughter! :D :D I originally thought Melody would find out from Phoenix and the demon-bats, or Zotz or from Nocturna who she really is, but after that I seriously suspected it would be Goth who lets the cat outta the bag. :D :D I also find myself seriously wondering if these two revelations will lead to Goth and Melody, after they've opened up to each-other romantically, suffering a temporary rift; because their respective relations to Zotz and Nocturna technically make them cousins even though one was made from the earth while the other was biologically conceived.

During that scene with the owl trio, I particularly loved the way you so-directly addressed the matter of them hunting live animals (who they in their animal forms can understand the speech of) for food with Denise being reluctantly introduced to it - you didn't really just censor it and put it in the background as a non-thing like most children's cartoons besides 'Silverwing' would do with protagonist carnivores, and I love the way you portrayed it with Denise quickly killing and eating that little bird. :) Also love the note that scene left off on with Denise finding out about owl pellets. :'D

I delighted in Goth's shift in demeanor after learning the stuff he did from Zotz. (Finding out that he's basically the Dark Messiah of his religion, that the Zotz's-sister thing is true and that the human-silverwing girl he's increasingly desiring is Nocturna's daughter has to be a lot to stomach.) And I sensed something uneasy on the way when Melody deliberately separated from him. (Also love the teasing way she did it! :'D :'D) When Phoenix initiated her plan to guide Melody's log to the rapids, I initially thought that seemed like a pretty weak and feeble way to try and murder Melody on Phoenix's part - my stance quickly changed when Melody was actually in the rapids. I LOVED the way Melody cried out for help from Goth and Goth granted it. When Goth was debating whether to sacrifice Melody or a hundred hearts from Statue Haven, I think I could've been biting my nails, and I DELIGHTED at his choice! :) :)

Overall, a delightful chapter in spite of the Goth x Melody action and how it threw the no-animal-protagonists-killing-onscreen trope in the trashcan! :) :) I do have one complaint, in that Goth's core characterisation seemed right to me but his dialogue/speech patterns didn't seem to be his - I feel this chapter should've had an extra tidying-up before publication to fix that.

Sorry I haven't written more in this review - I kind of set myself a goal for certain reasons to review both this and the new chapter of 'The Beginning' in a limited time.
