Reviews for A Fond Farewell
Creaturemaster chapter 1 . 10/1/2018
Wow . . . just . . . just, wow . . .

Despite being such a big fan of the Ben 10 franchise, I guess it never really occurred to me that at some point in the future, Paradox would be the only one left in the universe when all the stars would eventually fade out of existence and time itself would cease to exist. I always imagined that, due to their respective abilities, Ben and Gwen would probably outlast a number of their friends and family by a couple hundreds years or so, but . . . man . . .

I always find these kind of stories to be bittersweet, yet strangely beautiful:

A being of non-comprehensible power takes a moment in their hectic schedule all across existence to watch the end of something that they either hold dear or something so cosmically massive it's difficult to even fully comprehend. They stand there, starring back at the void with unflinching resolve, knowing that they will survive long after everything else has faded and they have a silent contemplation. They're then joined by a companion - a long time friend, an enemy who they've struggled with for so long they've lost all purpose and meaning in their silly squabble. They banter back and forth, share a few final words of wisdom and comfort as everything comes to an end around them. One of them may eventually leave, consumed by the darkness that has engulfed everything else, leaving the god to stand in the void with nothing left to say or do. Having seen his mission through, he either turns to leave and continue onward or accept his punishment and wander all of eternity alone in the darkness. Whatever may happen, they carry with them the knowledge that at some point in time, they'll be all alone . . .

It really makes you wonder what the end of the universe might look like . . . and whether you really want to see it or live the rest of your life in blissful ignorance. It makes you wonder if anything really matters and if it does, where is it all going? I guess what I'm trying to say is that these kinds of stories are really thought provoking, whether we like it or not, and I commend you for writing such a short story so beautifully.

Well done.
