Love the way Shinji is depicted in this and any evangelion fan would know this wouldn't be too far a stretch for his character as in the manga some of his dialogue is more ballsy and dry.

Honestly pictured him as a younger Gregory house type character in this. I like the seesaw of power controll that seems to tip between him and asuka in this too. It's like an intense tennis match. One chapter one seems to be on top, the next and the tables have turned.

I’m calling bull on your take of Shinji. There’s nothing too “realistic” about your version, he’s got an edge to him that’s shaped him not into an intelligent emo (like his father) but a Mary Sue. He’s handsome and charming but not too much to be obnoxious, and doesn’t socialize, which is a common trait for modern Gary Stus. It just feels like wish fulfillment, which is an essential theme of NGE that I feel like you’ve missed entirely.

At the beginning I was partially convinced you made him into a pseudo-sociopath (high charisma, lack of concern for others) but I don’t think you’ve read into psychology as much as Anno to create or even understand a somewhat mentally realistic character. This is why research is really important! Before you make assumptions about a character and call “unrealistic”,

If I’m wrong and you did make him a semi-sociopath, I recommend stuff like Hannibal or MindHunters, it will really help. I wish you good luck writing and that you’ll learn something insightful about yourself here.

Nice update but should of added a much larger argument as Shinji was gone for quite awhile.

Very interesting story love the new portrayal of shinji and each characters response to his actions. Can't wait for the next addition and hoping it doesn't end here.

I could do without the descriptions of smoking like it's some spiritual experience, but other than that, I like this story. Look forward to reading more.

I thought this was supposed to be a dark Shinji? He's just broody, kinda anti-social, and doesn't like to talk much. And either super fucking lazy or just doesn't give a fuck enough to protect himself or get back at others for hitting him. I was expecting to read about an angry Shinji whose thoughts were dark but just didn't care enough about anyone or thing to truly do anything unless someone had done something to him. This one is just fucking taking everything and rollin with it while coming off as almost emotionless
