I was sobbing by the end of this, I'm still crying.

I rarely venture into the world of 'T' rated stories... but holy feels, Batman. This one will stick with me for awhile. This is exactly how I could see the anime/manga going if it continued. Their love doesn't mean they were gay, simply that they found their counterpart in another person of the same gender, and that is what you capture so perfectly in less than 2k words.
