I'm glad to see Valerie again.

I do think she can change Shendu for the better if given the chance.

Thanks for updating. :)
Getsugaru chapter 21 . 6/29
An excellent chapter. Such excitement, such drama, such plot development! I appreciate how hard you are making it both for Valerie to convince Jackie, for Jackie to be open-minded about this, and for Jade to ask for help (if there's one thing from the show about Jade I'll never forget, it's her insistence on solving the problems she admits to have causing herself; that and her arguably being the true main protagonist).

I'm looking forward to the next chapter with baited breath; if there's anything that can convince Jackie (and maybe Uncle) to be more open-minded about Dark-Chi entities, saving Jade from a fate worse than death is probably it.

The only thing I would say was off in this chapter was some of the wording used by Jackie; he's always been more precise with his words (mostly as a result of English not being his first language). It was mostly just your choice to use "I get that" as opposed to (for example) "I understand that." A small thing, but it did strike me as off somewhat. It may be me misremembering his mannerisms.

As always, great work and I'll patiently wait for the next chapter.
mew mew 124 chapter 21 . 6/29
Man...it has been a LONG time...but looks like it was worth the wait.

So Valerie and Drago agree to try and work together and work through things, and Nat is trying not to kill him...oh man, like Nat and Drago's pairing wasn't interesting enough...seems when Drago's not attacking he's got a more mellow side...

Then Valerie attempts to tell Jackie the truth-only for him to shoot her down, hard...we get where he's coming from-most everything-demon he's seen and fought has tried to kill him and his family...but his reaction is still harsh-and we know where Valerie is coming too...
(i am not criticizing-THIS was a GREAT scene, exceptional drama, the characters and conflict were understood- reminds me a bit of the drama from Captain America Civil War-THAT's how good this interaction was! Awesome job!).

Shendu desperate enough to call his siblings-that's surprising, and more so, the other demons are ALSO terrified of their mother...yikes! Epic foreshadowing...

And then poor Jade is getting worse, then Hsi Wu finally seals the binding...but differently?! And now Jade's life is in danger!
I really wanna know what happens-it is too good to end on this note...please review soon!

Warrior of Spectra chapter 21 . 6/16
So this review is a bit late...okay it is REALLY late.

A lot of stuff going on in this chapter, but it fits perfectly and the transitions of POV is done so well. Even though each scene has a different mood, everything is in place as it continues the sub plots in the story.

My favorite has to be between Nat and Drago, how the two have some similarities and, yet, they are still very different characters who are natural enemies. Yet something as simple as sitting on a couch, bored out of the whit, leaves plenty of air to spill out words. It’ll be interesting to see how things progress.

How you tie up the last half of the chapter, focusing on a much more dark tone, is done well. Jackie and Val’s conversation shows a rift forming, how far this rift extends is to soon to tell.
SyfyGuy2 chapter 21 . 6/15
Ooh-hoo-hoo-hoo! :D :D :D Oh, this was a delightful, amazing chapter which felt intense and had me giggling aloud with glee several times! :D :D :D I gotta admit, I was surprised that this story and not 'Heart of the Inferno' was updated next, given your roster system.

I loved how comedic Nat's arrival at the apartment was (and Drago shouting to his mum like a couch potato shouting at his wife is so funny :)), and I could really picture the camera shots when Valerie dragged her aside. :) :) I also loved Nat's use of the devil-was-once-an-angel argument, it fits so well with how Shendu is technically half-divine through his mum. :) :)

I'm not exaggerating, when I glimpsed a bit of the next scene's text and realised the other six demon-sorcerers besides Shendu and Hsi Wu were making an actual cameo in this story, I quiet-squealed and threw my hands together repeatedly like an excited chimp! :) :) :D :D I don't think we've ever seen Xiao Fung pull a razor-grin except for when his mouth his moving while he's speaking, and I delighted in the creepy mental image! :) :) Hsi Wu being transparent ceaselessly excited me (and the image of him uniquely having a whispery voice among the demon-sorcerers was delightfully creepy! :) :)), and Shendu noting it made me wonder if his suspicions would grow. :) :) I also really like how that scene lampshaded the plothole of why Shendu's siblings don't destroy their own bodies to escape the Netherworld so someone on Earth can resurrect them - that occurred to me as well when thinking about the show. :) I was quite pleased to see the other demon-sorcerers' reactions to Tiamat's rising - it's actually pretty terrifying how, despite the rather saddening way they searched for her after she abandoned them, all of Shendu's siblings react purely with fear at the idea she's rising. It also drives home Shendu's statement Tiamat raised her demon-kids without love - they all react with nothing but fear when Shendu tells them about Tiamat's rising, yet despite being demons they still seem to have a saddening childlike craving to find her (even if they don't acknowledge it) with how they responded to her disappearance. It also seems like while they all fear her, Tchang Zu is the god-fearing type towards his mum. Though I am a bit bemused about why Shendu's siblings didn't already know about Tiamat's awakening, since the chapter where the bad-chi stars took effect established that the demons in the Netherworld felt the magic-wave as well. I loved the reference to Drago opening the hell-rift in the finale, and how the demon-sorcerers were excited by the idea of Tiamat's successor freeing them. It makes me wonder if Shendu and Hsi Wu's other siblings are going to emerge and become part of this story's final battle. :D :D I'd be pretty excited to see all eight of them interact with their mother in some way, since I have been wondering of each of the other demon-siblings' relationships with her compare to Shendu's. :) :)

I enjoyed the scene with Nat and Drago at the couch, and seeing Nat start to open up to Drago again. It was also disturbing when Drago looked her in the eye and talked to her about his conflict between giving up on revenge and getting back what he lost by bonding with Valerie. And that ending with Nat roping Drago into going to a bar with her has me eager to see what'll happen when they get there. :) :) I can imagine Drago snarling at and probably breathing fire at a few drunken twats who come his way (or who he sees approaching Nat, even though she can obviously take care of them herself). :) I'm also wondering what kind of bar a humanoid dragon like Drago wouldn't stick out in - I can only think of a cosplay bar, BDSM bar or a bar with a lot of body-modification-enthusiast patrons. X)

Valerie's reasoning about convincing the Chan Clan that she can redeem Shendu and Drago before getting them onto the hunt for Tiamat made me feel a bit more sympathetic to her lying to them again. Captain Black's words during the discussion with Jackie made a slight chill run up my spine, making me wonder if he silently suspects Valerie freed Shendu on purpose. I wasn't surprised at the way Jackie rebutted Valerie's arguments in the cafeteria scene or at how unreasonable his counter-arguments were, but I was shocked alongside Valerie at how rash, worked-up and dickish he got about it. :O I have to wonder if that outburst in Jackie regarding the Fire Demons is some subconscious reaction over his suspicions about Valerie's behaviour around them, since I always felt that while the canon version of Jackie was narrow-minded about black-and-white and demon-magic being evil, for him it was never personal compared to how this version of Jackie snaps at Valerie. (If I'd been in Valerie's position in that argument, I probably would've brought up Drago being half-human, and how humans are technically good-chi beings and yet humans like Valmont and the Ice Crew still exist, to make the pro-redemotion argument stronger.) When Jackie said those chessboard-words to Valerie and left, I shared her fury at him - it's a pity no-one like Uncle or Nat was there to slap some sense into Jackie like when he accused Drago. x) Also, I feel really uneasy at Valerie noticing the look in Jackie's eye and the signs from his outburst, of his growing suspicion towards her. :o

When Valerie passed by Jade's room, I wasn't expecting much to happen - and was genuinely surprised and delighted at all that happened next! :) :) The image of Jade curled up on the floor and running away to the bathroom was genuinely scary - kinda gave me One Ring vibes with how the Ring can make gentle hobbits suddenly start screaming with hate and envy. I was also delighted at seeing Valerie find out about the Hsi Wu situation when she saw Jade's eyes flash red. :) :) I delighted in the bathroom scene - it was pretty unnerving with Hsi Wu speaking to Jade and with her spewing like she had the Rage Virus or something. I chuckle with glee at the moment Hsi Wu plays his card with Jade pushed to her limit by the faux-binding's effects. :) :) It was a pretty exciting and terrifying moment when Jade started looking into herself for her link to Hsi Wu - I was expecting Valerie to break into the bathroom to see Hsi Wu emerge into the earthly world! :O :O When Jade saw the flute along their bond, I thought for a second this scene was only going to lead to the Sky Demon Chi's location being found, until Hsi Wu revealed the chi was being drawn to her. In that moment, I wondered if the chi would reach Jade right away or if Jade and Valerie would be running to keep the Sky Demon Chi from catching up with her. I squealed with glee when the Sky Demon Chi entering the bathroom, not least due to thinking in spite of Hsi Wu's dialogue about taking her over that it was going to turn Jade into a Sky Demon and/or enable Hsi Wu to directly possess her body! :) :) :) Also, I LOVE the way you used Hsi Wu's "Say chi-spell!" line there. :) :) I chuckled in great delight at the reveal of Jade's new binding-mark on her palm, thinking; 'OMG, so Jade and Hsi Wu's Other-binding has been completed, and she'll have to live with it for the rest of her life after Hsi Wu's defeated!' :D :D Until Shendu said it might not be too late. x) "That sneaky gremlin!" I chuckled out-loud at Shendu suddenly saying that when he worked his brother out! :'D :'D

Ooh, so now Valerie is running with Jade to her apartment, to get Shendu's help stopping Hsi Wu who's about to take her over to escape the Netherworld. :o :o After Val and Jackie's cafeteria argument, I've got a strong picture of where my brain thinks this might lead, and that it might explain Future Jade's hatred of Valerie - the rest of the Chan Clan arrive at the apartment and find Valerie and Shendu conducting the ritual on Jade while she's inert, Jackie jumps to the wrong conclusion and assumes Val and Shendu are helping Hsi Wu escape, his paternal instinct for Jade fuses to anger at Valerie's seeming betrayal, and a fight breaks out. :O :O I can also imagine if that's what happened in Drago's original timeline, then Nat would probably be accidentally killed during the fight before she could explain things to the Chan Clan - maybe by Jade herself using Other-magic or magic from Hsi Wu :O :O - and I wouldn't be that surprised if the fight would end with the Chans successfully re-petrifying Shendu while Val escaped, and him remaining like that until Tiamat rises. (Then again, Shendu in the present timeline has already been out of his statue form longer than a short while, plus he and Valerie haven't had sex to conceive Drago yet; unless of course, in actuality they conceive Drago through psychic-dream-sex after Shendu's re-petrified. :O :O) If my guess is close to what'll happen, then I'm guessing it'll have to be Drago who brings Valerie and the Chans back together since he wasn't interfering in events in the original timeline. On the other hand, in spite of how in the present timeline, Hsi Wu was prompted to perform his faux-binding by Tarakudo's interference (which only happened when it did because Drago was in the present); I'm wondering if this new situation isn't what really happened in Drago's timeline when the Chan Clan cast Valerie out - or if, even grimmer, the events in the original timeline were same-synopsis,-different-details in a form of alternate-timeline elasticity; the latter would really drain everyone's hope that the Dragon Clan and Chan Clan can change Valerie, Shendu and Drago's future fates, if time is activiely working against them to try and mirror the original timeline's history. :O :O

Onto my speculations about what'll happen next in this story: thinking about what Drago's fate will be at the end of this story, I'm wondering if Valerie and Shendu will ultimately never conceive in the present timeline, but the Guardian of Ages will use the Book to enable Drago to continue existing in their timeline as an anomaly instead of ceasing to exist. I'm also wondering if the Ice Crew are still adhering to Drago's orders not to act before he gives the signal, or if after how much time has passed, it'll turn out when we see them again that they've gone rogue due to Drago showing softness and have taken the remaining two demon-chi for themselves. :O I'm also wondering if Drago will run into them at the bar. :O Or if Nat and Drago will wind up having a drunken first-kiss that immediately freaks one of them out, while they're at the bar. X)

Overall, a delightful new chapter that was funny with Drago, then quite intense with Jackie and Valerie's argument and not least with the Hsi Wu arc coming to a head at last! :D :D In regards to the dark future with Valerie's death and the Chans hating her, it really feels like the clouds are gathering. :) :)
Olmo chapter 21 . 6/15
Finally! Welcome back! Good to see that you haven't abandoned your amazing works in these troubled times!

Man, I hate Jackie's hypocrisy in refusing to consider rehabilitation for demons. It also showed a bit in "Queen of the Shadowkhan" when Jade questioned why the Shadowkhan couldn't be given a chance when Tohru was, he responds that Tohru is human. Granted, Jade was turning demonic and the Shadowkhan are apparently mindless drones, but still. I bet his black-and-white views stem from Uncle's dogmatic influence.

Anyway, I'm waiting to see where your path in this twilight zone leads us.
yami no kyubbi chapter 21 . 6/15
I have to admit that I kinda forgot about this story since it had been awhile. Then I saw the update and reread the whole thing to refresh my memory and I have to say...GODDAMN I LOVE THIS FIC!

Seriously though it’s been an absolute thrill reading the character arcs that our dynamic duo and the chan clan are going through. Shendu’s conflict on his desire for answers against his demonic impulses to dominate feel particularly real, considering we all struggle with wants vs. needs.

Of course our main heroine’s struggle hits all through the feels. Her battle to bridge the gap between her son and the conflicting feelings she has for Shendu have been masterfully written. Not to mention the conflict she feels with the Chan clan and their dogmatic belief in good vs. evil.

Speaking of said clan, I was genuinely stunned at how rigid Jackie was in his stance against Drago. Shendu I can understand considering his long and bloody history, but I thought Jackie would have a bit more compassion for the much younger and lost Drago. Have a bad feeling that his stubbornness will come back to bite him. Also hoping to see Uncle’s input on the whole situation.

Overall glad to see you’re back in action, can’t wait to see the Jade/Hsi Wu fiasco unfold. Tbh I’m getting some Revenge of the Sith vibes from this arc!

Keep up the good work!
