You know with the release of the final installment of Dark Souls, and the revelation that the Ornstein and Smogh fought in the first game were indeed fake. I can't help but feel this would fit so well in the lore with the fact that Ornstein did leave in search of Gwyn's firstborn. Haven't played the game myself yet, but from what I hear you find Ornstein's armor near the place where the nameless king is fought.(Not sure if its on a corpse of not.)
