Really really enjoyed this chapter. It introduced so much good material.

Your perspective on Leia and Ben's relationship is probably extremely unique in the fandom. I enjoyed how Ben knows that he will eventually forgive his mother, yet keeps his distance from her before that time for her sake as much as his. Very often, I see Ben and Leia's relationship depicted in fic as one where it is 100% Ben's fault and none of Leia's- or if it is, Leia is excused very readily and it's always Ben's problem for not getting with the program. And I desperately do want both of them to reconcile; I don't want Ben to be bitter over his family for the rest of his life. But I do very much like how you've written them here, where their relationship is very much a push-and-pull, "I love you but I'm not sure how much I can stand you" thing, quite in its raw stages.

Ben asking Rey to give him orders broke my heart a little bit. I very much see this in line with how Ben would possibly be after getting Snoke after his head- for a person who's spent his adult life projecting an aura of power and control, it's evident that he's never had anything of the sort (which was why he was so obsessed with crafting a persona that made it easier to pretend he did), and now he doesn't even know how to deal with his own autonomy. And of course Rey takes that need, that trust Ben has in her in giving her that bit of control over him, and simply asks him to kiss her.

The beginnings of a reconciliation with Luke and Chewie were also well wanted. I really liked how Luke and Ben managed to clear the air a bit, yet there was still that understandable edge between them that belies Luke's lingering sense of loss. "I cost you your youth. I'm sorry" and "I have my own guilt to atone for" ahsjshjhlyl it hurts so good.

And of course there was Ben comforting Rey in her nightmare. I really appreciate how even though this is a story about Ben's vulnerabilities, Rey still has a few of her own, and she allows Ben to comfort her. It makes their relationship feel a lot more mutual and balanced.

I want to say I like Ben's feelings on his sexuality, cause it happens and I think it would have added to his sense of being separate. with the context of your story, how you have him written, it completely fits. love how you didn't make Rey, or Ben, trip out his having that kind of experience. and awww mama Leia is there! I hope he doesn't screw up too much lol. great job, can't wait for more!

I'm really glad you included this chapter, however much it hurt. I was wondering if there were going to be setbacks when Rey and Ben initiated this relationship. With a personality like Ben's here, full of guilt and self-doubt and a martyr complex that means he needs to save everyone from himself, it was a little inevitable. It's frustrating, because the very reasons Ben doesn't believe he's a good enough person for Rey are the very reasons why he is- "She trusted him and saw the incident as only more reason why she should." It's one thing for Ben to reciprocate Rey's affection in his moments of distress and weakness, but it's going to be a laborious process of allowing himself to believe he has the right to anything Rey wants to give. Because if he lets himself be happy- isn't that the same as no longer feeling remorse, no longer feeling guilt, for what he's done? I think it is, in Ben's eyes. It's going to be a journey to get him to let down his walls- to say nothing of Rey letting down hers. I've gotta say, it was a little unforgiveable to me how Ben spurned Rey after Rey came out of her nightmare, wanting to be held by him, and he denied her. It's one of the cruelest things he's ever done, no matter the nobility of the intent. Rey has been abandoned by so many people, and though Ben acknowledges that she doesn't take abandonment well, I don't think he really understands the magnitude of what he did. Rey chose him, and Ben chose her back for however brief a time. For him to then turn heel and say it was a mistake is every fear Rey's ever had about human relationships neatly bowtied. Somehow, Ben has to pull or be pulled out of this notion that making himself suffer forever and ever is the same thing as penitence, because he's making the people who care about him suffer too. He needs to be Rey's rock as much as Rey is his right now.

Also, Leia- hell yeah. I'm so excited to see her next chapter.

I looove that after rey being so touchy with him in the last chapter, she just ignores him and he pleas hahahaha poor Ben. he feels so lost
