I just wanted to say how much I love this story! The exploration of how the characters' lives would have changed in this alternate plot is interesting and I really like your take on the characters. I particularly appreciate your treatment of both the fatal flaws and strengths of Alec and Lydia's marriage. I hope you're inspired to return to it someday.

When I first saw that Magnus didn't see Alec at the club, I originally was like, "Oh no!" and all disappointed. But I kept reading, and their first new meeting! SO GOOD! I loved your change. I loved this entire chapter, actually. I cannot wait to see where it goes. Also, movie date night sounds adorable. And Lydia's gonna be a mama! So exciting, but also really sad. And I love that John is around!

Oh, this is one interesting AU. I see it is based on the TV series, which is unexpectedly nice because it leaves a whole lot more space for variation. This fic was a sure hit with me the moment that thing with Clary and her mother happened so drastically different (what with Clary actually seeing her mother, and with Joycelin dying). This is going to become one convoluted mess very soon.
I like Lydia's character as well. Her all business interest in the marriage fits nicely to Alec, though her ambition will likely not make her the most trustworthy once the the New York Institute starts hiding things. Another point I'm particularly fond of is Alec's attitude towards Clary - it's refreshing to read something where he isn't, for once, totally opposed to her.
Next comes Magnus Bane - that'll be fun. :) Magnus is so very entertaining and with Alec already being married...well.

Oh my goodness! SO GOOD! I am on the edge of my seat, feeling as tense as I'm sure Alec is. I love how you've managed to keep Alec perfectly IC while also softening him just enough for this world. It's just really... really nice. I like it a lot. And every time another thread is pulled at Alec's past and what his parents did, I hate them all the more. Dx I'm not sure what "deadline" the Lightwoods were discussing, but I'm guessing... babies? Maybe? Aka soldiers, of course. Not that I'd be against daddy!Alec, awww, I bet he'd be so cute. But that would just be... awful to be born into a loveless marriage. So I can only hope they'll figure something out!

Gah, I am still super fond of your Lydia. I remember really despising her in the show because she was taking over Alec's position and then getting in the way of Malec... but man, there's something about Lydia that is just really, REALLY hard to hate. I've come to the conclusion that it's because Lydia and Alec are SO much alike. If Alec were straight, I think he and Lydia could've actually worked out pretty well. They're both stern but big ol' softies, strong but vulnerable, law-followers until the moment they aren't, and they both just want the people around them to be happy before themselves. They're just... two peas in a pod.

So to see you treating her with such respect - at least in her past incarnation. Obviously we haven't met her in present day yet, but Alec's smile upon seeing her call tells me she's not so different - I just love it. So, thank you for that.

But, clearly, I have to say it - bring on more Magnus! I am going to eagerly be waiting for that chapter 5 now, I hope you know that, haha. Keep up the amazing work; I will wait eagerly for teh next update.

Very cool start. I'm superbly intrigued. I like everything about this, from the lack of Alec's romantic love for Jace to Lydia being a partner that actually brings Alec happiness the way any of his friends do. My only gripe (tiny gripe) would be that Magnus didn't seem as interested in Alec upon their first meeting, which was such a shame! But maybe Magnus just needs a second looksie.

I do hope there's more! I cannot wait to read it if so. Keep up the wonderful work!
