The plot thickens!
My my my, this is never going to work, is it. I'm concerned about Matt's insistence in the first place, and that although he might not be smart enough to tell, his interest in Ash is not all that sincere. And it seems even LESS so after Emily and Mike get paired up for Prom - like maybe he's a lil lovesick for Em? Honestly, I have no idea. You could literally take this fic any direction at this point. And I know that Chris and Matt are coaching her, (And Matt knows his chances of getting her the crown raise ten-fold once she is HIS date because he's so popular...
Chris. You're the ultimate Chrashley fangirl, which means I have a sneaking suspicion you'd never let Chris down for TOO long. Even if Ash agrees to go, Chris and Ashley are endgame. They'll end up together. In the meantime, the suspense of it all is overwhelming and I am very excited to see what happens next.
And the fic is so funny! There were multiple points that made me snicker or LOL and I'm very happy about that! You and I have a tendency to LOOOOVE the angst, but you're writing comedy so well that I hope you always inject a little of it even into your sadder fics. Plus, even tho the game was tragic in the end, there was a lot of humor. So it's pretty much canon anyway ;)

(Side note- every time you talk about Chris' handsome grin, I start laughing so hard because my mind automatically goes to the part where he says "I hope it's a rom-com" and he looks demented hahahahahahha BUT Chris is very cute. I just always think of that. Just like I can't stop thinking about Josh's SUUUUper deformed hands in that game - especially the scene where he's talking about the deodorant to Chris. Rewatch, you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.)
Oh, and Hi! Long time no see.
What I love about this fic most of all is 1) utilizing a character that I have yet to ever get a firm read on (Matt) and breathing life into him. 2) Ashley's spunky attitude. Fiiinally. Although, she's got a few good one-liners in the game that help me believe she can keep up with the likes of Josh and Chris as far as banter is concerned, so it's just delving deeper into her character for me. And 3) All the cute, "we like each other but can't for the life of us admit it" moments you're sprinkling throughout. LOVE it. You're really doing a fantastic build up.
And then... wow. Ashley's homelife. :( I did not see that coming, but you know what's interesting? And I hope you don't take offense, since it has to do with your sweet, precious Ashley, but... I always kinda wondered if she was the poor one. Everyone else seems so well off, and in my headcanon I've always imagined Ashley's family being a little more downtrodden with a loooot of siblings. I'd say I imagined Chris' and Sam as typical middle class and the rest well off. Although, I also imagine Sam being raised "Topanga style" with weird, hippie parents that let her be herself from a young age. Or maybe just having one parent.
I'm rambling. But it wouldn't be a Mogitz review without some rambling.
Onto the next chapter before I lose steam.

There aren't a whole lot of stories from Ashley's perspective. I like it. This story is pretty hilarious, I've caught myself laughing a little harder than I really should at Ashley's description of Matt and Chris's antics. I'm sure the two of them competing for her is going to go SUPER well. Heh.
Anyway, I love the story, and I can't wait to see more of it!

"Hey! She could totally be prom queen!" Omg. Adorable, defensive, sweet, naive Chris. Ashley really could be anything in his eyes. I love that.
The dynamic between the three is so cute and funny. I love Matt! I really, really do. I said this before but you have made him SO much more than the game did - he deserved that! Everyone likes to talk about what a raw end of the deal Josh got (which he did, dangit!) but Matt was berated by Emily through the whole game, made a cuckold by Mike when he saw them hugging, and given some of the most gruesome deaths in the game - like, its insanely hard to save him if you don't know what you're doing. And he's the first to die! Add all that to a completely underdeveloped personality and the least amount of screen time and we know who the real victim of UD is.
So thank you for this!
Josh, ever the mood-ruiner. It's really a talent at this point. I bet Ash wishes she had more food to hurl off in his direction.
Okay okay. First of all (or like 5th or 6th of all), the dialogue is great, the plot is fantastic, the budding romance is perfect. I am trying to figure out if Matt likes her more than a friend and that's why he's offering to do this OR he wants to beat Mike and Emily. Either way, you know I can't resist a good ol' love triangle.
But I think we all know who will come out on top. :)

I really like how you wrote Ashley and her mom! The interaction was great to read. I feel bad for them. :( I also enjoyed Josh's picture! I kinda want to know how Chris reacts once he sees this reaction… Probably him going red as a tomato. Great job, once again!

Reading this I was thinking of How I Met Your Mother, Barney being like "Challenge Accepted!" Great chapter that was lots of fun to read! I cannot wait for more!

Gosh, this chapter was even funnier than the first one!
Side note, I freaking envy your ability to describe things. It always paints such a vivid picture in my mind, specifically the way you describe Chris leaning back in his chair and in chapter one how the banner looked like the scraggly ends of a ghost - you're always so poetic and I can't think of stuff like that on the fly. I am always so focused on my destination that I never stop to take in the scenery, ja know what I'm sayin'?
Okay so Ashley's internal monologue is hilarious.
Chris is ridiculously, adorably pathetic and yet Ash is still smitten.
Matt is endearing and to be honest, I am SO happy you're breathing life into such a one-dimensional character. And in After and I Do he is so dark. THIS is the Matt I always envisioned so I'm so glad you brought him to life.
The premise is fantastic. It REALLY IS like one of those 90's chick flicks. Like, Ashley is prob gonna get all wrapped up in the idea of being prom queen and not realizing that Chris has been in front of her the whole time.
Clever, cute, funny references to relevant celebs - Mike's nickname for Matt cracked me up. I can totally envision the friendly rivalry. They are all so in character, like from back when things were simpler. And of course I can't wait to see where this goes!

This story is such a joy to read! I'm so excited to see Ashley's reaction. I know it's going to be good. This story is written very well! I am looking forward to seeing further chapters. You have an awesome story here!

Gahhhh I just adore this. I really, really do! Firstly, I love your fluff, mostly because while you write angst so well, it's so refreshing everytime you try your hand at something light - and it's still not entirely light! I love this Ashley. I personally feel like THIS Ashley, IS Ashley. I have read her so broken in "After" and in "I Do," I LOVE reading pre-traumatized Ashley because she was so fun and spirited in the game, with her overactive imagination and her great one-liners (You Dip! What were you doing, tweeting #theresaghostafterus?)
And THIS is so much more than a one-shot, ya know. It's pretty clear that Matt has some kind of agenda where Ash is concerned, it's just SO much more subtle than Chris' crush - and unfortunately, while she might adore Matt, he will never be Chris. This is definitely still my headcanon.
The funny part, too, is that if Chris knew Matt was kinda scopin' on his girl, he'd be insanely jealous and assume Matt had more to offer Ashley, I would imagine! Because Matt is athletic and popular and attractive and by all accounts what any high school girl would be into. Little does he know Matt doesn't even exist to her when Chris is around. Oh, young love. I swear, at one point, I WAS Ashley haha.
You can do more with this if you want. I wouldn't mind a short prom series! 3
