Beautiful poignant imagery

This was absolutely beautiful. Your descriptions and lack of names until the end made it even more powerful. The imagery was great, and I loved your references, like the one to Troy. "Your heart is a hummingbird, your ribs a cage" - such an awesome line. Their guilt was realistic as well. I'm not sure that I can picture them leaving in the middle of the war, but that's the beauty of an AU.
