Very suspenseful, great battle scenes and humor too - A great read!
I thought you might have Dietrich discover Troy but not turn him over to the Ghestopo.

Exhausting story! So much great action and drama. What an imagination you have. And it's all so perfectly done.

Also very clever how you managed to fool Dietrich.

Some great action scenes within and fantastic involvement from all of the characters. Also tightly plotted and executed in true to form and Rat Patrol fashion.

Great story! Love stories about Hitch especially when the whole gang is there. Well crafted story with each member having an important role and the plot engages the reader throughout.

At last! the cavalry has arrived! Again, I must be missing something. Wasn't Troy out by the jeep when Dietrich came to double check troy's death? Some good dialog between moffit and tully . " "getting answers from Tully was like pulling teeth from a chicken".
(This sounds like Moffitt has picked up some Kentucky colloquialisms (sp?) Another stupid question on my part- did Hitch knowingly leave the hats by the jeep as a message? "I'm not going to stop until we (get hitch and troy),. Tully must be serious about this rescue since he got out a new matchstick. I have to stop reading; but at least the rescuers have arrived and have a plan (we hope)
I can't start your new story until I finish this one; I'll get everything more mixed up than I have already done. Great story! everyone is definitely in character.

I'm almost as confused the people at the end. At first I thought Dietrich was the person speaking at the beginning but as I could see later it was an American officer (I think). In the previous chapter, I missed completely Hitch switching the dogtags. (I most have been half asleep when I read chapters 3-4 so I'm glad this chapter repeated the important acts of subtrofuge (sp?) so that dummies like me can figure out what's going on. duh...I liked Troy's immediate concern for hitch's welfare. and hitch was a star again. His "trick" has succeeded so far. He obviously isn't a "dumb kid" He has learned his tricks from the master. I'm still hoping moffitt and tully will soon make an appearance and become heroes too like their fellow rats (I still dislike that name). onto the next chapter!

My review just disappeared. I'll try to repeat everything (I have a "disappear" button on my computer which I seem to click on quite frequently), Great chapter and an Academy award for Hitch. POW facilities weren't all that great even in the USA - There was one near where I live and many of the German and Italian POWs chose to stay here after the war. I always think of Hogan's Heroes for POW conditions. Obviously Hitch (and maybe even Detrich) are quite sure the other 2 members of the team will soon show up to rescue Hitch. Hitch bleeds and suffers a lot in this chapter, very effectively. I liked his response to his interrogator: "I don't like the way (you) asked". I'm not surprised at D's sympathetic response to Hitch's "performance". there is some discussion among the Germans since Troy is (apparently) dead. Hitch is a POW; and Moffitt will probably go back to his British uni; the Rat Patrol is to be disbanded. NOW, WHO HAVE THEY FORGOTTEN ABOUT? Time for Tully and (surely Moffitt) to ride to their friends' heroic rescue(but it will have to wait until tomorrow night). I like this multi chapter story a lot.

Ah, the plot thickens. Obviously quick decisions have to be right made on the battlefield even by blonde privates (even those who have hair that changes color every episode). There were obvious problems with being a commando, but they knew that goes with the territory which in turn gave the guys lots of exciting stories for their grandchildren, assuming they survive.(s an side, the obituary for "Tar" said he had 8 grandchildren which gave me a warm feeling) I liked the scene of Hitch holding Troy's body closely on his lap.

I wonder why the Germans never seem to "expect" the 2 pesky jeeps and their 2 man crews to appear on a battlefield? I really liked the excellent description of all "the action" involving tanks, jeeps etc. I can now also see how important the jeep drivers are. Hitch had to await troy's orders, point the jeep in the direction the enemy was gathering, watch for any other hostile threats, and be able to get away safely, all the while trying to provide "cover" for the "good guys", and dodge grenades, tank shots and anything else that might come their way, What a guy! All that and he was only the second best driver around. I suppose Troy hadn't bled for awhile - so it's his turn. In fan fiction, however Hitch and Tully (who hasn't appeared yet) have the most experience at effectively bleeding enough to elicit a lot of comforting by their friends. I'll do 2 more chapters tomorrow. I love these long stories!

good description of the physical conditions all of the troops had to deal with.. All good leaders would try to protect younger upcoming officers so they might survive for the future, whether German or Allied soldiers. I liked the old Indian trick of drawing your overly confident troops into a trap and then charging forward to ultimately win the field. that leads to the ultimate question: "Did we win"? sometimes you are not sure!
