What a bittersweet chapter-but somehow I feel like it rings true. You are entirely right that Erina, and even Megumi, need to love themselves more. Erina making the choice to put herself first is a necessary thing at this junction in her life, even if it does break both her's and Soma's hearts. In the end they were both clumsy with each other and this kind of result feels natural to what happened.

As it is Soma needs to grow more himself, his behavior was really misguided. On a side note I honestly wish I could have heard his thoughts when she demanded that he not follow her. Sometimes love is about timing and hopefully he understands that someday (though I think he is starting to because he seemed to accept, if unhappily, her choice)

Anyways, I've followed this story for years and I just want to say that you are the master of pulling on a person's heartstrings. It's beautifully written and I look forward to that epilogue whenever you're ready to write and post it.

(On a side note, to see this update made my day. I hope you're doing great wherever it is that you are)

OHHHHHH MYYYY GODDDDD

YO. I cannot BELIEVE I didn't see this update until now. THE ANGST. MY HEART. IT HURTS SO BAD HOLY HELL.

First of all, I sincerely appreciate all the work you poured into this! Your many late nights definitely paid off and it shows. There are so many quotes I particularly loved, such as:

“It was thrilling, mystifying even, to learn what brought the confident transfer student down to his knees.”

“Why would Yukihira Soma, who had Totsuki’s population of girls at his feet, choose her?”

“But when he flips her over... she thought maybe it was really because Tadokoro Megumi was too pure and too perfect to be defiled by him in the ways she had allowed him to do to her.”

“You’re really going? To somewhere I can’t even see you, much less reach you?”

The last three, especially, really had my heart aching. Erina's depth in the show is often too subtle to notice, but there definitely is that self-conscious, borderline self-loathing girl behind the mask that is the Totsuki princess. But the line "Why would Soma... choose her?" really had me contemplating her character in a way I hadn't before. I love how you brought out this side of her in your fic. I also love how the answer isn't as simple as Soma just picking between Megumi and Erina, and that these two girls ultimately need to find love within themselves first. And the last quote, "You're really going?" just OBLITERATED my heart completely. It's probably the most revealing thing he's said to her throughout all of this.

I also love how Soma calls her out on how she forbade him to follow her. My heart hurts at the fact he followed her to where he could, which was the airport. OOF. OUCH. ERINA PLEASE STAY (but also a journey to discover yourself is super important too so... fuck lol)

Chapter 2 really had me thinking that you would also have Erina purposely lose the shokugeki. LOL. As if that would happen, now that I'm reflecting.

As much as my heart REALLY wanted a happy ending with Soma and Erina, it's definitely bittersweet enough for me to hope and believe that if you do come out with an epilogue (or something in between the years of the epilogue and this last chapter), they will find their way back to each other because like... They're soulmates, duh ;)

I really relate to Erina when she feels used by Soma for physical pleasure but just can't seem to bring herself to stop their arrangement. It's 100% one of the worst feelings in the world to grasp onto crumbs, to delude yourself into thinking that this just might be love, when in the back of your mind you know that this is the closest to their heart you'll ever get to them. (Although I just want to SHAKE some SENSE into Erina and tell her that the man of her dreams is right there? And is as equally in love with you girl some of us are not that lucky lmao!)

Overall... This definitely has to be one of my favorite fanfics written. Like seriously, I think the way you portrayed their pining and obliviousness of each other's feelings in a way that doesn't dumb down the characters is so great and that's hard to do! I do have to hope that your next update will be soon because I am LITERALLY shitting my pants at how hard my heart is clenching (this really can't be good for me lol).

this waswow. incredible. the way you write is heartbreaking but in the best way possible, and even though i never saw the love triangle like Others did (Megumi's there, yes, but they're friends?) i'm still absolutely baffled by the way you wrote it. in your universe, it made sense, even for me, and that is an amazing feature.
Erina on the other handoh my gods. Oh, my poor Queen. when she told Soma "I was never enough, was I" my heart broke for her. it makes me want to figure out what would have happened if she would've stayed. I'm so certain they could've figured it out together, but she was indignant on punishing herself and that cuts even deeper.
personally, I don't completely understand this "you have to love yourself first" mainly because I'm living it and i can assure you that it still works. Erina could've thought to love herself with Soma by her side, and i would've loved to see it. but here, you made it sound realistic and important and once again, that's just incredible. overall, the story made so much sense in your setting and I'm in love with it.
as it is, i don't know if you plan on continuing this but it you do, i just hope they find their Ways back to each other (because they belong together okay and my heart can't take it otherwise T_T) .

I am so glad to have found this story! I freaking love it! I am so glad that the Erina still decided to move forward and decided to give herself a chance to love herself, she deserves happiness! I can't wait to read where this will lead them...

I seriously wanna do Yukihira some extreme bodily harm, for doing this shit to Erina! But good read some angst from time to time And I am loving this story!

This was so beautiful yet so heartbreaking! I think you got the characters on point, and I do believe this could actually happen between them! Sōma am Erina are made for each other yet they have so much between them and keeping them apart!

Hi! Just wanted to drop a line on this GORGEOUS piece of work. I'm late to Shokugeki and have just been catching up and bemoaning the fact that there's so little fic and then I read this and it made everything better. I love how you've characterized Soma and Erina and how they're still who they are in the show/manga, but older and sexier all the same. Looking forward to the epilogue or whatever comes next!
