Oh this is so sweet, Judy teasing Nick like this, and the romance is so real. Cant wait to read more :)

Wow indeed. For "Humor" this sure was one heck of an emotional rollercoaster!
Only one point of confusion and one thing to criticize.

Firstly: Why would Judy think and reason with herself that telling Nick would make him mad - least of all furious? Stunned maybe, flustered even. But who the hell would be angry if their girlfriend told them she planned a party for them?

And second:

All of this lying and deceiving just for a simple party?
That's not how you do something like this. You don't lie - you tell the person supposed to be surprised the truth in a way that they don't understand it the way it is.
For example, at the beginning of the story Judy could've told Nick she was going to pick up some things for the ZPD with Clawhauser. Not a lie, because the decorations WERE for the ZPD lobby. And if he would've still been nosey she could've told him that it was kind of confidental. For it was - just not in the way Nick would've taken it. And if push really comes to shove...well, Nick stated that he should've believed in Judy - but belief is a two-way-street. If you find out/suspect your partner lies to you, the assumption made the easiest and quickest is that they don't trust you anymore - which in turn makes your own trust wither a little.
That's why, rather than giving your partner reason to think you don't trust them, you should just ask them to trust you a little - tell them that yes, there's something you're not telling them, in a way that assures them that it's nothing bad and that you will tell them eventually. Maybe even set a time by which you promise to tell them.
As Judy stated herself, it's called a "surprise" party.
Not a "I-lie-to-my-boyfriend's-face-so-often-that-he-can't-help-but-let-his-imagination-run-wild-in-all-the-worst-ways-to-keep-him-COMPLETELY-in-the-dark-party".

Don't get me wrong, they both messed up in their own way. It's just that I can understand the reasons for Nick's mistake more than Judy's.
And that I'm such a perfectionist that I'm unable to fully enjoy a good read if the plot doesn't make sense wholly ; -)

just read the end note... personally I dislike writers sticking in the whole... "Judy's pregnant now... surprise!" this is just my personal take on Judy as a character. she gave up every easy and nice thing she could have in her life to chase after a job that she physically shouldn't be cut out for. she already is at a disadvantage... she smart and work/goal oriented. less than 2 years on the force having sex on a regular basis... she would be popping birth control pills like skittles. she wouldn't risk having an unexpected pregnancy only 2 years into her career ... that would only hinder her progress... if you tell me 10 years down the road, she's a detective or in some higher ranking position then she "decides" its time. then yes I'd buy that. but a pregnancy popping up and surprising Judy fudging Hopps at the start of her career... no way. just my 2 cents... which really isn't worth 2 cents lol

I like how Judy flipped this to be 100% Nick's fault. at 3pm your girlfriend disappears says she's going shopping ... comes home at 1am... refusing to give a proper explanation... she does this for almost a month and is shocked and appalled that u think she is cheating. the wacko world some of these fanfic characters live in. decent fic though...
