FriggleBerry chapter 10 . 1/2

I absolutely loved this story. Great plotline, very well put together, all around five stars in all categories. Kinda want to see a sequel of this in my opinion of Astrid and Hiccup moving forward.
Irish-Brigid chapter 36 . 10/4/2019
Hiccup honestly doesn't look that much like Valka aside from hair color and build. His eye color is closer to Stoick's and his eye shape is almost identical. Valka's eyes are more of a blue-green and almond shaped. Valka also has a much more slanted, pointed jawline. I'd be willing to bet money that if we shaved Stoick, we'd see exactly where Hiccup gets his jaw from. Funny thing is, I think Hiccup's nose more closely resembles Valka's than Stoick's. The animators did a pretty good job mixing features from both parents.
Irish-Brigid chapter 20 . 10/4/2019
Just want to point out that I thoroughly appreciate it when fanfic authors make Stoick sympathetic. He takes way too much flak from the fandom when his actions in the first movie point to a man who cares but is overwhelmed by the demands of being both a chief and a single father to a well-meaning boy who manages to destroy a good chunk of the village on a semi-regular basis.

That said, I've noticed a tendency in your stories to recap, frequently and at length, just how crappy Hiccup's life is. As if we really need reminding. There's also your tendency to have Astrid as if complimenting her looks is a deadly insult despite her only reacting that way to Snotlout. In canon, I see no evidence that she thinks honest compliments are derogatory. Only Snotlout's obvious and disgusting attempts to get in her pants. This story also has a few problems related to viking culture and law.

First off, Spitelout promised to take care of Hiccup and Snotlout promised to introduce him to the other teens. Both broke their promises, making them oath-breakers *to the chief* and thus open to prosecution under viking law. Snotlout has also displayed cowardice in the front of witnesses, giving Stoick the perfect opportunity to disown him as heir. Heirs don't *have* to be blood-related. In fact, within chieftainships, the chief is often selected based on merit, not birth. A selfish, incompetent coward like Snotlout would last, at most, a week as chief before being disposed and replaced.

Second, and related, Snotlout and his mother have *publicly* slandered the chief. Instead of most of the village believing them and standing by them, they should be shocked and repulsed by the accusation. All three Jorgenson's did more than enough to earn banishment within the first *month* of Hiccup's arrival in Berk.

Third, everything I've read about viking culture indicates that women could *not* be sold as brides. The choice of husband had to be an agreement between the daughter and her parents. I'm sure some unscrupulous ass would try, anyway, but that just gives Astrid the excuse to bring the attack to her honor before the chief for prosecution and legally free her from *ever* having to deal with Snotlout's advances.

Fourth, vikings had slaves, yes, but they also *freed* slaves. Stoick announced that he freed Hiccup and made the boy his ward. There is no precedent for the village to treat Hiccup as anything less than a normal boy. A normal boy with a debt of gratitude to the chief, sure, but that's a debt he's clearly and publicly keen on paying. There's *zero* reason for them to shun him or treat anything he's touched as cursed.

Fifth, you seem to have an extremely low opinion of Spitelout and Snotlout given their position as villains (major or minor) in almost all your stories. While Spitelout is an asshole and Snotlout a selfish, arrogant misogynist, neither of them are *disloyal.* Boar-headed and convinced that they can somehow impress their superiors by disregarding orders, yes. Treacherous, not so much. That's the book version of Snotlout.

Lastly, something I could see coming almost from the first chapter but has me wondering how you're going to pull it off. Hiccup is *obviously* Stoick's real son, there are too many coincidences for anything else. Though Stoick's story is that his wife and newborn son died during the birthing and Hiccup's 'aunt' said that his father rejected him. If Stoick's son was born alive, it'd be kinda hard to hide it. Infants are *noisy.* The midwife either had a corpse on hand to switch with Hiccup, or no one bothered to actually check the bodies. Or make sure there were two bodies on the boat. Or noticed that the midwife either suddenly disappeared right after the deaths or suddenly had an infant son.

Still, it's nice that Stoick is being shown as reasonable and Astrid as something other than a bitch, items mentioned above not withstanding.
