Think it's 10th time reading this and still love it. Thanks. And not a bashing fic. I've read bashing fics both good and bad and this isn't it. If anything it's certain reviewers who are bashing the writer, but that's just me side-eyeing people big time now.

Love the story just wondering if there's any more pranks coming to McGee while Tony dose hand over and how Tony dose in his new role

Great one shot and I don't understand why people think this is Tim bashing, Tony gluing Tim's hands to his keyboard is nothing new (it also really puzzles me how McGee still falls for it after so many years) and McGee is naive enough to think that he'd be advanced that far so fast. Both of these things the writers of the show still portray happening to McGee. Well at least they still were during season 13, as I haven't watched the new season and I wont be or any other season that still may come next. No DiNozzo then I ain't watching and even with Tony still in the series I'd been pretty close to giving up on the series from about season 8.

What I was seeing in my mind's eye as I was reading it was that Tim was thinking he had been promoted to the deputy director position. After all, Vance had only said someone had to be appointed. When he realized he was to be the SFA, Tim was hurt. He also was thinking he was replacing Tony. Vance had not said 'let's welcome Tony DiNozzo to the role;' so Tim was thinking he was replacing Tony, which meant Tony was being demoted. People may think Tim was jumping too many rungs of the ladder if he was promoted but this kind of jumping happens all the time. Remember, Tim is the new style of agent Vance loves and pushes so much. This incident is Vance's fault. Tim has a right to be feeling hurt and disappointed here. He may even feel embarrassed if he thinks others will laugh at him for having the keyboard glued to his fingers and thinking he was the new DD. Gibbs is knowing what is happening in part as evidenced by his reported look of compassion. He, as well as Tony, needs to talk with Tim. Tim in all the stories has a huge insecurity issue, and this plays right into it. Tony may be ready for a leadership role, but as team leader for at least 2 years. There are things a really great DD would know only from having been a team leader.

Just read this, including the A/N at the end, and I liked it, but with due respect, I have to disagree with your logic that Tim's belief that he was the one getting the promotion to A.D. was justified. Yes, Vance in this story did a poor job of announcing it (He would, in all likelihood, have said, so please congratulate A.D. DiNozzo on his new assignments or duties). That said, Tony is senior to Tim, and has been in that role for years. He had previously been offered a team overseas, even though he turned it down, showing that the agency believed him ready for a leadership position. Also, when Gibbs retired, Tony took over the team. All of that points to Tony as the more logical choice. Additionally, Tim, aside from his time with cyber-crimes, has never had leadership duties, so it's very unlikely they would promote him so many rungs up the ladder.

As for Tim thinking Tony was demoted - why? Just because of the recency of the prank? There's no back story to support that thought, and Vance, for all his faults, would never make such an announcement so public - that violates far too many rules of protocol. Tim would support Tony, absolutely, but other than that? *shakes head*

I am always shocked at how rude people sometimes are to authors. Thank you for sharing your stories with us in spite of the abusive nature of some of the comments. Love your work!

Vance always was up Tony's ass just like Gibbs and everyone elsw (author included) while Tim always got unnecessary critisim.

Also this is a note to the author about your condescending attitude towards readers. It's a really asshole thing to mislead readers (you can't deny you did) and then get upset when readers voice their displeasure and then add a "warning" (which has was also really fucking condescending) and then call out said reviewers for still being upset. I respect that this is your story but I don't NOT respect you as a person becauae you belittle other people's feelings and thats not okay.

No this seemed pretty shitty. Tony, Vance, and Gibbs are all assholes and Tim deserves better than to be treated the way he does.

I always read your stories, so I'm not sure how I missed this one, but I'm glad I found it now.

Having read all the reviews as well as the story, I can sympathize with both sides. The reason I don't believe this was Tim-bashing is because this is actually a plausible scenario, especially for someone who is as naturally unsuspicious and literal-thinking as Tim is (and as I was, and still am.). Years ago I did exactly what Tim did here - misconstrued an announcement by my bosses and assumed I was getting (in my case) an accolade which (on looking back) I actually had not been remotely qualified for, and so I was then disappointed that it went to someone else. And, unlike Tim, I didn't even end up with an appropriate promotion as a consolation prize.

It almost felt like Vance was deliberately setting Tim up to be embarrassed.

I can certainly see how it looked as if Tony was being rewarded for bullying/hazing/harassing Tim. (Although apparently TPTB don't mind it, because they keep letting it happen.) I think that the supergluing has happened enough times in canon that Tim should be watchful for it. Maybe Tony is trying to remind Tim not to let his guard down? (And yes, in a real workplace it wouldn't be tolerated. This is why they call it fiction.) In hindsight, maybe Tony being summoned while bouncing paper balls off Tim's head would have upset people less while still setting the stage for Tim's assumptions. But hindsight (unlike my real-life eyesight) is always 20-20.

All that being said, I think Tony's promotion to DD was richly deserved. His investigative skills, his experience in various law-enforcement realms, his ability to think outside the box (box? what box?), his people skills - these uniquely qualify him for this position. His lack of formal team-lead experience isn't a disadvantage, both because he has plenty of informal leadership experience and because it sounds like the DD position doesn't involve direct hands-on leadership of a specific group of people. (For that matter, neither does the Directorship.) Frankly, I think this would have been a much better (and much more believable) way to handle MW's departure.

And last but not least, the future career path for Jerome Craig was great! Given the few glimpses we had of the character and his personality, it fit perfectly!
