Reviews for SkullBoy Orlando
Ashton Giertz chapter 5 . 7/21
hold up; so, the reason nothing hurts him is because of the skull heart fragment, but Marie, a fully fledged skullgirl, can be harmed. Word of advise: when writing your characters, don't make them more powerful than the most powerful being in the fictional universe they're in. In this case; your character is currently more powerful than the Skullgirl from his invulnerability alone. This raises the question; if they had developed something more powerful than the Skullgirl herself, how the heck did they forget about it for 7 years? ESPECIALLY when there was another Skullgirl 7 years ago that ought to have reminded them that they had an anti-skullgirl superweapon just lying around.

The problem with writing a super powerful character is that they're going to be a lot harder to connect with the audience. People can't really identity with a character who can effortlessly win any fight. This is why Batman is significantly more popular than Superman; because Batman has no powers, we can identify with his struggles as he deals with significantly more powerful opponents.

Now let's look at Superman; Superman is incredibly powerful; but he isn't written as a human character we can identify with; he's written as a beacon of hope that inspires us. Another example of a incredibly powerful character is Saitama from One Punch Man; here he is more humanized, but most of the emphasis is on his stupidly strong power, and the apathy that comes with the lack of a real challenge. What both Superman and Saitama have in common is that they intentionally hold themselves back; they don't start pointless fights or spar with others, because they know that they'll win.

Now let's contrast that with your OC; he's incredibly powerful; having invulnerability, lightning, guns, weather control(?), and numerous other abilities that put him on another weight class than the Skullgirls characters, and possibly even the Skullgirl herself. However, his actions don't line up with his power level; he challenged Ms. Fortune to a sparring match, as though he expected it to be a fair fight. When Parasoul accused him of spying and started attacking him, he immediately retaliated despite knowing that Parasoul posed no real threat to him.

"But he still feels pain" oh, please. He got ran over by a bunch of motorbikes and just laughs it off and pops himself back into shape like a cartoon character. I had my foot briefly ran over in a gravel driveway and I had a larger reaction to pain than your OC did from much worse. He SAID he still feels pain, but he doesn't act as though he feels pain.

If you want your OC to be incredibly powerful, that's ok; but you need to address the differences in power, or impose some sort of limit. For instance, your OC was frozen immediately after receiving his synthetic parasites. Therefore, he's never practiced his abilities. Have it so that he doesn't know the full extent of his abilities, or doesn't know how to control/use them properly. Though, if you do this, you want to make sure you introduce his newly discovered abilities BEFORE he actually needs them; NOT in the middle of a battle. An example of this done well is the Original Series Ben 10; the Omnitrix had the capacity to transform into 10,000 different aliens, but Ben starts off only knowing how to turn into 10. New alien forms are usually introduced at the beginning of episodes, with Ben not mastering the alien's abilities until the climax. If the alien form doesn't appear until the climax, there's usually some sort of build up (Like not being able to use the Omnitrix for half the episode), or it was unlocked by someone with more knowledge about the Omnitrix. Furthermore, Ben would often make mistakes; accidentally turning into the wrong alien, picking the wrong alien for the job, improperly using his abilities (like when he accidentally started a forest fire in the very first episode), and so on. They also balanced out the Omnitrix's power by putting it in the hands of an immature child who keeps dropping the idiot ball.

Why those things were important is because they made Ben fallible; something we can relate to. We can't relate to being able to transform into aliens, but we can relate to making a mistake and suffering consequences for it. We can relate to not getting the results we wanted, or not thinking things through.

Oh my god that was amazing! Please continue this story I wanna know what he did to peacock with that marker! And I wanna know if the psychotic gentleman and th kunoichi nurse will ever be together together. I wanna know if peacock will think about being a stepsister in the situation instead of dogs and cats boxing...I wanna see dogs and cats boxing in an arena full of different explosives! But seriously good fanfic, so straight forward like any cartoon story. Even Deadpool would be impressed.

DP: It’s good but could use more mayhem, some hot chicks, and one of those black and white classic backgrounds, then it’s a hit. But most importantly, hot chicks and boobs with some of those curves
