Even if they did not meet during TFA, I think these two together have potential. Hux is perhaps more a scholar than a real fighter and he would certainly like the fact that Rey is ressourceful, smart and a fast learner. Also, a mentally stable Force-user would make a welcome change in his life.
It's sweet that here, he allows himself to be the exact opposite of his public persona, and yet he still worries about the consequences for his girl.
