An interesting story that left me with mixed feelings. I enjoyed seeing a take on Gideon's troubled past. In an Oct 2016 podcast, the writers and directors met to discuss the film, and it was confirmed that Gideon did come from a broken home with abuse, that he did some form of therapy to help get better, and he found solace from his past in baking. So your tale folds into the extended Zootopia canon quite well.

One disconnect is that the movie does portray Gideon as... well... kinda slow. He's not dumb. You don't get to be a top pastry chef without a good head on your shoulders. But he is shown to be weak in his language skills... From his dialogue "That is the most stupidest thing I ever heard" to, as an adult, calling his business "Gideon Grey's Really Good Baked Stuff". So in the tale he sometimes spoke too eloquently and making him a poet, while a nice romantic touch, is inconsistent with his portrayal in the film.

But it's really with Dr. Hamm that I'm most conflicted. On the one hand, it was good to see someone express caring for Gideon and be able to offer him the counseling and encouragement he so desperately needed. On the other hand, it began to get increasingly uncomfortable to read as she continued to cross well beyond the boundaries of acceptable therapist behavior and poor Gideon was so starved for attention and approval he didn't realize she was going too far. Thus it was bittersweet to see Gideon helped but also abused again. Maybe more subtly and potentially not as damaging but was still taken advantage of by Dr. Hamm and her own issues.

All in all a good story that's well told. It's just for me the inclusion of the broken therapist made it hard to get past the discomfort at times and fully enjoy it.

This story sucked me in hard... I would have commented on every chapter, but I just could not stop reading. I'm actually kind of jealous of Gideon. It's really hard to let people in, especially your therapist... Heavens knows I still haven't let mine in. Just found some parts of it relatable. Kudos to you, an excellent writer.
