Reviews for Ties that Broke
Lou chapter 20 . 6/23
I..I have nothing to say for this review.. I'm speechless. All these emotions running through my veins for each chapter. You're such a talented writer no one can change my mind ! Xx.
Guest chapter 20 . 1/31
This was breathtakingly beautiful!
Hinami00 chapter 1 . 5/17/2018
You know what? "I used to rule the world" kinda fit this story. Kinda.
Guest chapter 10 . 2/2/2018
This is really fun and intense. It’s 2am and I think I’m going to be stuck reading until I finish! It was great seeing some stuff from Baron’s perspective, you write his voice excellently. Also Tsuge feeling like a brother to Haru is very sweet and you’ve fleshed out his character really well.
Guest chapter 2 . 2/2/2018
Another really cool fic. I love the magical realism in this one so far.
NoLongerHereAndDeleted chapter 20 . 1/9/2018
I actually read this right after my review for the original, and since I've been up until 4 am recently, I was able to finish it late lastnight. The big reason you may ask? THAT PlOT TWIST!

When it became a thing that Baron was on Earth, that piqued me and sounded wonderful, BUT THEN when it became obvious that Haru couldn't see nor hear him, but Tsuge and everyone else could, that is when I turned my phone screen off, take a silent moment, and shake my head in a "son of a gun" fashion (but I didnt say gun, lmao). That was the point where I really got grabbed and read hoping for more scenes with him and Haru, but the icing on the cake was you changing the .s and wrote for Baron's own perspective. That's the companion to the 'I don't understand you, but I've watched you forever, and we have different cultures' kink I loved in the first story. Even with the bitter sweet ending that was like a loophole to Thiris wanting Baron to pine over a woman he can not have: they're ghosts now and are gonna have the rest of their afterlife to be together and you'll still be a bitter bitch lmao. Also really loved Thiris in here too, reading his thoughts was enjoyable, and I low key really like his bitter mean ass.

The same as my other review can echo here, but not too loudly since the scenes weren't too long and not as big. Haru breaking her arm because of Yura and Hiromi not saying anything made me think a lot of the anime Peach Girl which is a lot like Haru's life in these two stories - a normal girl doing her best, but a jealous friend turning people on her out of jealousy. And by the time Baron comes in, things aren't really under society's domain, its all plot and you're twists and turns that you want to do, so even though it may seem crazy that Haru gets 2 months with Baron even after the government comes in and gets yelled by her, no there's real reason to complain because not only is it a FANstory, its FanFICTION. Fanfiction based of ANIME for that matter, so anything can happen for the sake of the author's imaginations.

And finally, this story WAS an improvement from the first, even the initial 8 chapters of backstory and Haru's growth on her own was nicer which disconnected and relatively short scenes (plus ones we only knew by mention of back in the first story). Perhaps it just took me a little while to grow fond and used to your writing too, but I believe the reason is that you pulled one twist out of now where, then added a second, BIGGER twist to it that held out attention. It goes to prove a very true and needed to hear piece of advice ALL artists need to know: You don't need a fancy style like out of some 19th century novel to have good story, all you need is imagination, love for your idea, and TLC as you write to have something memorable. I wouldn't rec this story as the first one to read, I believe it would best best to rec the initial story then this one so the reader and truly appreciate what you have done. They HAVE to read both to truly feel the excitement and happiness that I've felt.

So great work! I'll be thinking of this world and idea you created for a while now, and enjoy my own What Ifs to the story as well ;)
Triste1 chapter 20 . 9/30/2017
Oh wow, I can't believe how many years it's been since I've read and reviewed a fanfic (I literally couldn't remember how to log in to leave a review at first). It's wonderful to read something from you again. I can definitely see some evolving in your writing style, and I rather like it. The story was lovely. I rather liked the ending. It reminded me of how the original Little Mermaid turned to sea foam but continued to drift in the air with other spirits. I would say the dying-but-still-not-the-end bit was very well done. It might not be everyone's definition of a happy ending but I rather liked it. Haru growing a spine and elegantly telling the others to piss of was appreciated as well. There might be some parts that could be construed as a touch rushed, but it fits so I'm down with it.

Thank you for the lovely story (even if I'm obviously rather late to it, curse RL and all its pitfalls). It made the awful week somewhat more bearable. Keep writing and all the best to you!
Songorita chapter 20 . 6/9/2017

Boredom-kills-big-time chapter 20 . 4/26/2017
Reread this again today, after rereading ties that bind. I've been reading your work for years now and I never get tired of your style like I do with others. Your stories are always enchanting and immediately get me hooked. I can't wait till number 49 in posted. I can't even believe that you're so close to 50 when I started following you when I read "Refuge" sometime in 2010? Anyway, just wanted to let you know I still love your work!
Radiant World chapter 20 . 4/21/2017
So I just finished reading the story and even though I'm kind old I am grieving for these characters although they had a kind of happy ending?!
I think the first six chapters I was only crying. Like a lot. I was sitting in the living room crying like a child feeling all the frustration the sadness the depression that Haru no doubt felt. I might have reacted like that because to some extent I could understand her feelings the loneliness. I really want to thank you Yarning Chick for writing this absolutely sorrowful story that made me smile and cry a lot.
firedrakegirl chapter 20 . 2/22/2017
Well, over the last week or so I've read all of your fics. You've got a gift for fairytale based short stories. You should be writing original things and getting published!
Sakihinata chapter 20 . 1/27/2017
Oh my God, I don't know wether to consider this a tragic ending or not... nut it was a beautiful story ;)
Mystera II chapter 20 . 12/28/2016
Once again a wonderful story!
I'm happe I noticed tht it was completed before I had to move into my new flat. The internet will be hard to come by for a while until everything is sorted out and I would have hated to miss reading this story any longer than I did.

I wish you a happy 2017 with lots of fun, love and hopefully more of your wonderful stories.

~Tera
Daydreams.and.Butterflys chapter 20 . 12/5/2016
Choking on a lump in my throat after finishing this.
KrisG chapter 20 . 12/3/2016
Aww, sad ending. Okay, good thing I waited and read this in one chunk then. Yep, I'm a sappy romantic. Finally sucking it up and watching Princess Tutu helped, too. That's some fluffy cotton-candy crack, thanks for writing fic that convinced me to finally try it.

I'll admit I'm not that conversant with Cary Elwes' work-basically PB, Men in Tights, and voice acting. Doesn't sound like Men in Tights (the reason I can't listen to the Disney dub, everytime Baron speaks I hear that song). Although I think that'd be a hilarious crossover. Is it Quest for Camelot? Baron'd be more interesting as the girl and Haru as the guy than the other way round...oh, Porco Rosso! The film I remember nothing about except Elwes failing at a terrible Texan(?) accent!
