Guest chapter 1 . 8/22/2016 your story seems nice, but tbh (this is purely my personal and subjective opinion), i hate unnecessary OCs. |
sjsreader chapter 5 . 8/5/2016 Wow. Normally with OC's, people seem to have a hard time making them seem real, they are too perfect or just weirdly done. I'm not seeing any of that in this story! I think it's partly because you don't have her in there ALL THE TIME. She's in there enough to influence the story and be a part of it, but she's not the main character. I think you've done a really good job with Angel! Great job! |
Carottal chapter 5 . 8/5/2016 Hi! I just read the published chapter of your story and its quite enjoyable. I'm not going to say I find it awesome, but it sure is entertaining which is already a good thing. The pace is nice and I like Adrien, Nino, and Alya a lot. Your writing is easy to read and I think you became better at it. I thought chapter 1 was missing some feelings, soul, but I don't think so with your newest chapters, which is great! I think that on that aspect, Angel helped you a lot. You love writing her, don't you? Well, about Angel, the idea of such character is nice, and she brings a nice energy to the whole story. However, I find her a bit too perfect for any situation that comes her way (must be hard for Marinette to have a sister who succeeded in Marinette's dream career, and Marinette's current mission.). I'd like to see her lose control, be lost, because for now, all in all, things seem to be easy for her (I mean it's not that hard for her to deal with them). I loved the fight she had with Clovis over mushrooms. I like her the best when she's with him. Now, I would like to talk about the French parts of your story. One of the things that made me keep reading part chapter 1 were the French parts. Because it's so rare to see such good and natural French I wanted to know if you were French (with a good level of English so, and I hope you won't take this badly, older than I thought you'd be) or English (or American, Australian,...) with a very good level of French. Then I read about Aslea and it made sense. Anyway, why am I telling you that? Because with the latest chapters, I find the translation is not as good as before. I saw you had some complaints about the French translation, and I must say I understand them. So I have to ask : how do you work with Aslea? Do you send her the sentences you need in French or do you send her the bits of dialogue in which you insert French sentences? Because one way to explain the parts that are not translated right would be a lack of context for Aslea. Here is an example, I think it was on chapter 4. In the chapter, Marinette says "Je l'ai !". You wanted her to say "got it!" and "je l'ai" does mean that. However, in French, it only means "got it" as "I have it", "I received it", "it's in my possession". Whereas in the dialogue, you meant "got it" as, "I understand". In that case, in French, we'd say "Compris" which means "Understood". Other example, from chapter 5, a sentence I had to read in English to understand (and it's sad to better understand something written in a language that is not your own): "Mais si cela t'apporte la tranquillité d'esprit je vais t'éclairer ou de sa terrasse. Pas pour des raisons mais des principes moraux ok? C'est mieux que rien... et c'est plus sûr. (But if it brings you peace of mind I will scout for her from her terrace. Not on grounds but high grounds okay? It's better than nothing...and it's safer.)" I just didn't understand the first sentence, and I'm still not sure about the second one. I wonder if Aslea did translate that one for you actually, because that's just not French. Maybe you forgot to correct that one before translating? Anyway, here is one way I would say the first sentence : "Mais si ça peut te rassurer je vais essayer de la localiser depuis la terrasse." (Just so you know, it is not literal translation at all, but it just feels more natural to me this way. I don't think there is a word to really translate to scout. Don't know what Aslea would say though, we all speak differently after all) And about the second sentence, here is the problem. When I read it in English, I understand Angel means that from the terrace, she'll be higher so she'll have better chance to spot her sister. To translate it in French, I'd say "Pas depuis le sol mais en prenant de la hauteur" (meaning Not from the ground but from a higher place) (actually, I would just say "En prenant de la hauteur" which means From higher ground) So now, when I read the French translation, I understand that Angel will do it not because it's the reasonable thing to do but because it's the moral thing to do. See the problem? It's such different meaning, I don't know which one is the right one. So yeah, that's actually pretty annoying. I hope you'll be able to clear things out for French speakers like me. Because when the translation is done right, it's kind of fun to read the sentence, and realise it was written in French just when you get to the English translation. About the French parts, I have another question though. That question is simple but very important. Why? Don't get me wrong, as a French girl, I love when I read French amidst English, all the more when it's good French. But here, I can try all I want, I don't get why some dialogues are written in French and some are written in English. Is there a reason anyway? Or do you just go with the flow? I don't blame you if there's no logic and reason for it, but I just wonder. I mean, you decided to put in French parts even though you're not good in French. You now have to rely on someone to do the translation and it must make the writing of chapters longer. I wonder what your thoughts were on that, what led you to decide to put so much efforts into this, if there's no logic behind it. Anyway, thanks a lot for all the efforts you're making for this story, for sharing it as well, and I have to thank you Aslea as well, because it's very nice of her to help you on the French parts of this story. Good luck with the next chapters! |

Bubble-Gum chapter 3 . 5/23/2016 Im just going to say this not to be rude but you need to not use french in your stories if you are going to use google translate. Im a 4th year french student and its makeing me cringe on how bad google is. |
Freya chapter 4 . 5/11/2016 Where did you get the French translations? No offense, but they aren't very accurate. |
