In answer to your question, NOT MUCH, you have lost your grip on the characters and the story, both have gone downhill fatally.

The end was a surprise but a good set up for your new story. For the first time I feel sorry for Steve. Not sure about Dean crying so much, but I can see the whole relationship problems happening when you have two emotionally constrained men.
