Reviews for Travelling in this Skin
imgoodbackup chapter 1 . 12/1/2017
Loved it! Really enjoyed your take on how to give them a fake marriage scenario that would be feasible, but I must admit now I feel challenged and inspired to come up with one of my own. Also feeling inspired to write more for them, but kind of intimidated at the same time the more of your stories I read. You just have such a perfect grasp on these characters and I'm not there yet. Feeling really happy that I still have a few more tomchel fics from you to read.
StarTraveler chapter 3 . 2/7/2016
Finally decided to read this I loved it wouldn't mind reading more
tmtcltb chapter 3 . 2/4/2016
So interesting having Rachel's father alive given the dynamic between the two. And the scene with Tex was great! Another excellent chapter!
tmtcltb chapter 2 . 2/4/2016
LOL at Tom being dead weight! Oh, and very clever of Rachel to block the door and then distract their observers with a PDA.

The push/pull of the mission and their attraction was well written. Someone needs to be punished for setting the virus loose though!
tmtcltb chapter 1 . 2/4/2016
Love the premise of this story! I would love to have more background on why they are in space, the relationship between the James and the earthships, why each ship developed such different culture, where they are going, why there is no visiting between the ships, etc. Not sure if you get to that in the next chapters.

It was also a creative way to make Tom and Rachel really look at each other and consider what they wanted. Although the idea of being bound to a spouse all day sounds rather hellish to me, lol.

I did laugh at Tom's scramble to create a "how we met" story.

Loved the scene with Tom turning Rachel away and then explaining why - you can see how seriously he takes his responsibilities. Lovely!

Oh such a beautiful and intimate ending. I love that Rachel did eventually and shyly share her love for Tom, but far more than that, I love that he patiently and trustingly waited for her to do so, realising that she was at such a different point to him but nevertheless trusting in their love enough to know that she would make it there eventually. I loved this whole story, sorry it's over, I can totally imagine some good story lines that could lead on from this point, with both of them going on to pursue a real relationship in this universe. But either way I did hope you write more of these two, you write them really well and I would very much like to read more. Excellent work. :-D
Scousedancer chapter 3 . 2/1/2016
I love how Tom is in this story, so confident of his love for Rachel and how patient he is, knowing she needs time to come to terms with her love for him. Rachel's scared in case Tom leaves her & his gentle, loving support was just gorgeous - the love scenes were beautiful in this chapter(& previous chapters)! Thank you for sharing it with us!
Scousedancer chapter 2 . 2/1/2016
I love this chapter and their developing relationship - you can see how much they've come to mean to each other in such a short space of time! They're so well matched, even in this alternate universe, and I love this story- I'm hooked!
Scousedancer chapter 1 . 2/1/2016
I really enjoyed your take on our favorite programme! The Last Ship in Space! Absolutely brilliant & I really enjoyed the way you've painted the relationship between Tom & Rachel, they seem alot more confident around each other- I like it!
MetalChickCrisis2040 chapter 3 . 2/1/2016
ohhhhh myyyy goddddddddddddd. i loved this. i loved this so much i did not want it to end. i loved this so much that i'm trying to type this as quickly as possible and not even using proper capitalization because i just friggin' can't with how much i loved this! ugh. U G H, OKAY. I FOUND THE CAPS LOCK.

Taking a moment to rein in my feels, here.

There's something so intricate and intimate and utterly raw about this piece that just draws me right the hell in. Forgoing the fact that I am a huge, huge space nerd and am always looking for things involving space and time travel. So the fact that this story is the show I'm currently obsessed beyond the realm of obsession with and it's subsequently a space AU, well. I'd generally say my bias got the best of me, but in reading these words, it's not the space element at all, but how wonderfully you write. From the dialogue to the things unspoken and all the refreshing bits of minor exposition. The slight angst and romance, asdfghjkl. Just. So savory.

This is going into my favorites and I truly, truly hope you write more for these two.
IfUKnewUCouldNotFail chapter 2 . 2/1/2016
Wow, a lot happened in this chapter, both on a storyline level and a personal one in regards to Tom and Rachel. That was one very fast turn around on Tom's part! I mean did he even last a day in his resolve!? Not that I'm complaining mind you! ;-) I frankly hope he can prove equally weak in regards to this 'one time deal' thing. Or will they being able to be together when they get back to earthship V? Was it just the rules on the smaller Nathan James spacecraft that were different? I wasn't entirely clear on that...
IfUKnewUCouldNotFail chapter 1 . 1/31/2016
I love this! I love the idea of putting these two in a fake/coerced (that becomes real) marriage situation. (Even more so than my most recent story) I've toyed with it a bit myself, but it is indeed a large hurdle to conceive of a realistic situation without going too far AU. I have been toying with a not too far future post virus dystopian society, with rising factions with specific and fanatical views on relationships...that Tom and Rachel run into. I totally respect that you jumped over that hurdle completely and just put them in space! :-D because it really does still totally work, they are still very much Tom and Rachel, at least from my POV, everything around them being different really doesn't change that as much as you'd think. Interesting to see how things unfold from here, Tom's true desire, though leashed, seems relatively clear but this Rachel is a bit of a mystery as yet...though the woman herself is not exactly an open book. It will be strange if, by their societies standards, Rachel is more the normal one in her attitudes and Tom the exception by his strange monogamous preference for his personal relationships.
