I love your version of Hermione's dad. I would hope my own dad would say a similar thing if someone tried to ask him for permission to marry me. Very sweet, and very much how things should be I think.

You know, I hate to say this and I quite understand Dr. Granger's point, but I think it very sad that something so important to Sev was refused. And it sets the precedent that instead of doing things that please them both, the marriage will always be done 'her' way and that he will always be the one that needs to compromise.

Dr, Granger should have explained his reasoning and offered his approval of Sev instead of his permission, making it clear that 'he' was not the one to ask, but that he supported Sev in his quest.

Many people see a wedding as such a big event in a woman's life that they also tend to discount that it is just as big of a deal to the man. After years of disapproval from practically everyone, it would have been nice for Sev to have been told what he needed to hear. Yes, AFTER everything, Dr. Granger finally makes it clear that he approves. But at the same time, it makes it seem that Sev is only acceptable as long as he changes in whatever way they feel is important. Even when something is terribly important to HIM.

Such a wonderful story and always worth a second reading as I've just done. A keeper for sure. I believe the Grangers will drag Severus into the modern world, yes?

I'm not really a fan of Severus/Hermione stories, but I really loved this one-shot. You got me rooting for Severus to get the dad's permission. And I loved the sweet insight we got into Severus feelings, with still keeping his character pretty in character. Amazing writing. Thanks for writing!
