It's amazing what you do. You write Valka not like we all know her, but how she probably were. She wanted to stop the war, but she was also raised in believing that dragons were thoughtless beasts. She is learning.

I'm baaack...
And I decided to start reading in chronological order, so this is where I started.
Valka sure has a lot of stuff to miss. Reading this made me think about how much I don't even think about doing without, because *of course* it will always be there. And she must be lonely. Even with all the dragons, when your two-year-old is the only person you can really talk to (sort of) it's hard.
Hahaha rain getting everywhere. I may have mentioned this before, but for a place where it 'snows nine months of the year and rains the other three', whenever we see Berk in Race to the Edge, it always seems to be sunny :)
Some god answered her prayer... Now who might that be I wonder...
Aww Valka is so protective of Hiccup. I like Valka a lot here. She's so young and alone sometimes, and so frightened for Hiccup, but she's also so strong and brave. It takes a lot to raise a child in a nest of dragons, when you also have to survive yourself. I'm sure the dragons are a great help to her though ;)
I'd be terrified if my toddler was wandering around near cliffs.
Yeah, it's pretty exhausting to live in a world where no one will listen to your ideas. I bet she had some arguments with Stoick over dragons...
Oh no, she shouted at Cloudjumper! Now he's sad... I get the impression her feelings for him are a bit complicated, though positive. She loves him, but...
Silly, Sillier and Silliest. :D Even if she does call them all Triplet. Which is also a great name.
Hahaha. Hiccup is filthy and doesn't want a bath. Toddlers are the same wherever they live, and whoever their friends are.
Ugh, I would hate to get lost in those caves. The idea of being stuck there forever, fumbling around in the dark until you die of thirst or something... Shudders.
That's some interesting stuff Valka gets brought. A single, perfect feather... Whose idea was that? But yeah, being a set of children's clothes would be horrible.
Baby Hiccup in the water is adorable. He's so innocent, with no idea that things are anything other than normal. It makes me feel all comfortable inside :) And Toothless is back! Oh, they are so cute together. Soul-mates from the start. Toothless is such a puppy when he's little. Considering he's more of a cat when grown up, that's funny.
Oh, Cloudjumper. So many feelings for him in this. The pain... Ooh, traitor. I hadn't thought of Valka being considered that before. She's not *against* the people of Berk, I don't think. She just believes they're wrong. Which, you know, they are. But I think she's right, that Hiccup at the Nest might be better than on Berk. He certainly seems happier here.
That would be scary, expecting to be eaten at any moment... Do Vikings actually have any support for the claim that dragons eat humans, or is it just one of those things they believe, like a dragon always going for the kill?

Valka tried to build a raft... Oh, she has no chance of getting home in that thing. In any case, I don't think she'd be allowed to just go home like that... But I do feel for her, and her need to pretend that she could go back. I don't blame her for breaking down. Sometimes a breakdown can make you feel better afterwards. Oh Toothless, getting all concerned. He really is the best.
The image of a young Hiccup and Toothless fighting to get in Valka's lap is a wonderful one. And Valka realising that she wouldn't take Hiccup back anyway, because he's happy... So heartwarming.
'she is determined he will not be a dragon' Oh. Um... Well... I think it might already be a bit late for that, Valka.
And her decision to burn the raft and make a new life. I don't know what to say, other than it felt very *right*.
Her statement that they will bring their worlds together was a nice call forward to the end of 'Nightfall'.

This was amazing, I must admit, I had a lil teary moment within this story, and it just made it even more sad knowing Val died but she still eventually got the wish she was hoping for :D Again, an amazing job and I cannot wait till you write more :D

Nice...not a lot of story's deal with Valka's feelings like this so it was interesting to see it. I think you nailed it right on the head how she would feel if both she AND hiccup had been taken.
