Reviews for Chessboard and Umber
Devin Trinidad chapter 1 . 7/9/2018
Wonderfully written. This literally could have happened if their universes were meshed together. What really got me the most was that this was written mostly from the pov of the father-Soichiro. I usually don't read stories about him in particular (maybe its because not a lot of people focus on him even though he's literally the most morally focused character in the show, but you really knocked it out of the ball park with this one.

He was well characterized and his most motivations for the most part in this story was understandable. You can feel his shame, his bitter regret, and so many other emotions emoting throughout this story. The way he interacts with the other characters, especially his colleagues and how they dance around the issue of enforcers and Light and the world that they're currently living in-it's all so realistically portrayed.

Not only that, but due to the fact that both anime have a heavy reliance on colors as symbolism (and symbolism in general), but the way you phrased and used colors in your story was really telling. It told stories about the characters that can never be done so accurately and beautifully as you have done here. I really liked how darkness and umber is both reminiscent of Light's character in Death Note-and within this shared universe of Psycho Pass.

But my most favorite part of this fanfiction in particular was the callbacks to the original universe of Psycho Pass-that being the mention of the new inspector and Masaoka's conversation with Soichiro. Gosh, I was smiling during that entire scene.

Great story! I can't wait to read the sequel!

Interestingly done. Id love to see what happens if another Death Note falls in this universe and Light gets his hands on it.
