Reviews for The Walk
Vera Gilbert chapter 1 . 11/6/2017
I don't even know how many times I read this story. so beautiful, so realistic, so very well written. I am going to read it againjust because I like it so much.
Guest chapter 1 . 12/17/2016
Ugghhghhghghg so good. I just love the way you do dialogue. And as always, your use of language, expressions, even science babble. As someone who writes not in her mother tongue, I'm very envious. Teach me, senpai.
I was a bit confused about the version of tmnt this was based on. I kept imagining 2k12 until you mentioned South America and the wedding, but it's just so odd to imagine 2k7 Donatello like this with April. In my mind, it's a hybrid.

Loved it! Amazing!
anon2016 chapter 3 . 7/21/2016
Gosh that's good. Just wondering, did you have a particular 'verse in mind when you wrote this? Gap-toothed Donnie vs. the farmhouse being Casey's had me wondering. It shouldn't really matter, but I always wonder whether I have the right voices running through my head as I read.
Nissandra chapter 3 . 5/22/2016

Novus Ordo Seclorum chapter 3 . 12/30/2015
A thousand pardons for the general lateness of this review! I began this story back when you first posted it and with work and everything else, it got lost in the shuffle. I apologize for that! Now that I have had a few days to rest and relax, I gave this a second read from "cover to cover" and must say that I am truly impressed by this story - of course, I am usually impressed with your work!

Foremost, you have such a knack for writing very brilliant Donnie and April banter. It's uncanny, really. When I imagine how they'd speak to each other and the various things they'd discuss, I can't help but figure that they would sound almost exactly as they do here. If there is one compliment that I can pay you here, it would be that you definitely show the chemistry between them. Theirs is a relationship predicated on a deep understanding of one another (even if they misread each other at times or resign themselves to martyrdom because they believe the other would be better off). Their relationship shines here and what I appreciate most about it is that it is honest. You have portrayed a deep friendship that has blossomed into more. Wonderful job!

Also, I loved the plot. From my own experience, I have found that many of life's most interesting conversations have taken place while I have simply been taking to someone else, whether it was during an actual walk or in a cafe or something. Those tend to be the conversations that change the way things are. It is an illusion (and maybe somewhat of a trope) that the big moments - the ones where we really find ourselves or our circumstances change inalterably - are grandiose. More often than not, the defining moments in life are ordinary; memories and hindsight elevate them thereafter. You have captured that sense here. Donnie and April took a walk. It wasn't necessarily going to become the night that redefined their relationship... Rather, it began unassumingly enough. And yet, neither will ever forget it.

Art mirrors life (or life mirrors art). Either way, you captured something profoundly real here, and I applaud you for it.

Excellent work as always, Tezza. My apologies that it took a month for me to truly appreciate the scope and scale of this tour-de-force! Looking forward to reading more from you soon!
