And yet still S8 stays revolting, but with writers like you it makes it just a little better.

I am of the opinion that complete trust can never be earned from an alpha personality and that it most likely doesn't even exist.

What Kate was looking for from Castle was just enough trust from him to allow her to save him. He couldn't even manage that because he is an alpha male - has a deep need to be in control - he is a writer after all and has complete control over his words - not judging here, exactly - and you should know that particularly since you know my favorite story of yours, you can pretty much imagine what I admire and what I may not admire. ;)

Kate needs to forgive herself for always finding a way to hold herself responsible for others actions. (see name/wain as an example) as she once said in a Season 8 episode, could have been this one 8.08 "not going to throw around blame"-she needs to act on that sentiment starting with herself first!

Castle needs to ask for Kate's forgiveness which he will, of course, receive from her.

The only gift that they have to give each other besides their love is TRUST, at least Enough Trust.

A well written attempt at making sense of a crappy first half of season 8 this basically rehashes the formula of the Castle series...So basically its all Castle's fault and Beckett has to clean up the mess. Then Castle has to wallow and grovel to make things right, begging for Beckett's forgiveness because of course he screwed up again. Mean while crusader Beckett selfishly runs off to play the martyr leaving a wide swath of personal destruction in her wake...Yup pretty much status quo for the series.

Thanks for writing this. It certainly makes more sense than the "resolution" we got. Yes, they are a trainwreck in your fic but in a much more realistic way than on the show. This kind of scenario is about the only way they could begin to mitigate the damage of the first half of season 8, but I don't expect anything like this to happen on the show, sadly.

I'm finally caught up with this season so far. And yes, I will parrot what everyone else has pretty much said - your version is more believable, both plot-wise and emotion-wise. Much more of a plausible reason as to why they would need to stay apart. And the fact that they BOTH messed up, and they're BOTH utter train-wrecks, is a much more satisfying ending than the ending of that episode.

I am glad that they've ended the silliness in canon (or at least, THAT silliness, anyway) and I look forward to reading more fic from you, based on filling out fixing the mess this season is or otherwise. :)

Agree with you on the last three minutes of 8x8 being annoying and stupid and not nearly enough to make up for the wreck of this season. But thank you for writing a sort of fix-it to come up with a better and more believable reason for why Kate needed Castle to stay out of her investigation.
