Im pretty sure I've read this way too many times, but it's so good I can't help it! Best The Martian fanfic I've ever read, honestly

I hope the thrid installment still gets new chapters soon. But as I listened to the audio book again recently I noticed some stuff odd with this first one.

1. Shouldn't Stein find both Rovers? I get that he likley parked the trailer somewhere but it can't be to far away so she likley has seen it.

2. Why did Watney leve the Hab inflated? I get the plot reason (so NASA doesn't find evidence of his survival) but what was his reason to not shut it down like he did in the book?

Also given that you still need an explenation totally different from that for why his presense at Ares IV landing site wasn't noted. Surely both the Rovers and the solar sells on the MAV would stand out. The pictures also get posted to the public (and while likley not looked at by big masses certainly there are groups who will do so). So it can't really be just some analyst not doing their work properly because then still someone would have likley noted and rung a bell. That leaves deliberated sabotage. The photos posted must be older photos edited and reposted and likley it wasn't because someone noticed Watney was there and wanted to keep that from anyone. Maybe some of the sattelites are not working as advertised and the companies that face a lawsuit over it got somebody to post old images so that everyone belives all is working fine. Although that would not work now with Ares IV on side so even such an explenation has holes in it.

Of course you might decide to never include the reasons Watney wasn't noticed in your storyline but I would be interested in what you propose as possible chain of events that lead to it.

I loved this chapter the most. Probably more than the other chapters. Though, I love the whole story more. Looking forward to reading the sequel.

Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. So happy that Mark is finally get the help he obviously and badly needs from other humans beings other than the basic he had been doing for himself.

Argh. Wow. After reading this I'm even more glad than I was after reading the book that Weir decided to have such a jocular, kind-hearted, and of course, resilient guy like Watney as his protagonist. While reading it the seriousness and life-threatening extent of his situation is hugely mitigated because of Watney's ability to crack jokes. Your fic really paints the picture of how Watney's sensibilities helped him cope, but also how much emotional/mental problems he's hiding now after being stranded on Mars for four years. I'm going to keep reading the next part, even though I'm a bit depressed now. It sucks to read about such an upbeat guy like Watney's mental degradation. And NASA (in this) is a bunch of dicks. Teddy is going to be fucked when the media realizes he could have easily used the satellite to check the Ares III site and chose not to because of the likelihood of bad PR. The rest of the Ares III crew is going to feel supernova levels of guilt when they find out he's alive. And do I see foreshadowing of a attempted suicide by Watney? I noticed he was rubbing his wrists a few times.

One plot hole: The MAV has communications gear that can reach earth without help. Unless watney was that far gone, he could have used it.

Amazing. I can't wait to read the rest.
