I don't think that the Potters sacrificed themselves for Magical Britain. They sacrificed themselves for their child and the others profited from that.

Three times they faced Riddle. And always got away. Which doesn't sound overly sacrifice-happy. Also they went into hiding when they were targeted specifically. Which, too, doesn't indicate the will to die for anyone.

When they were attacked directly without being able to flee they sacrificed themselves. James to give his wife and son time to get away, Lily to protect her child. Sounds a bit like they gave a shit about anyone else, hm?

So, just leaving the bigoted shithole is most probably what the Potter parents would hope Harry would do. To be able to live instead of being sacrificed himself by Dumbledore, or being so indoctrinated by the idea of The Greater Good (tm) that he indeed does it himself.

Love it. Couldn't of happened to nicer people. Well, Dudley sort of seemed to grow a brain, but not until later so Harry wouldn't have known. Dumbledore should feel lucky he's not a mountain goat. I hope his ability let's him be specific enough that Voldy is a garter snake and not a cobra or something worse. Maybe Nagini will have him for lunch.
