FINALLY WE GET TO KNOW THE REASON THRANDUIL WANTS THE NECKLACE! Even if it isn't official, it's a good (and sentimental) enough reason for me to love this theory. And considering I've only watched the films, it makes sense in the Middle Earth Universe, that it's more about the Dwarves having (albeit unknowingly) taken and memorial for the Elves, instead of it "just being an heirloom" (though I've heard theories that it was made for Thranduil's wife, but that's another story altogether)

There two points when I suspected this was yours :) first 'threnody'..you are the only writer on this net I know who can use that convincingly :)
and when the subject of the diamonds came up I was sure..

This is lovely..the symbolism of the stones is so beautiful and heartbreaking.
Imperial and correct Thranduil as ever such fun to read. Him verbally sparring with Gandalf even better
