Interesting trivia. The very first Sherlock Holmes radio episode I listened to starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce was a Gunpowder Plot themed story.

I'm rather late to the party in reviewing. I'd read this when you first posted, and flagged it to review, but...

This story is packed with so much - great characterisation, plot, structure, h/c, backstory, wow. The action sequence was skillfully short and tense, followed by Sherlock's tender care. The aftermath at 221b is perfect. Observant and caring Lestrade, concerned, considerate and, of course, efficient Mycroft add to the wealth of the story. Mycroft's solution was so clever.

Well done, as always.

That was really emotional. I agree with John's opinion about fire crackers, the whole city sounds like a freaking war zone when enough of them go off one after another!
Seeing Sherlock having the back of his friend like that was so heart warming. :D

Nicely done. It's a nice reminder of friendship and how true relationships lead to mutual healing. The description of the fireworks and noise was neatly penned.

Sad and lovely- John is a deep character and I always like the stories that explore that. Don't think you're ever going to give him a break though! lol!

Sherlock is so sweet again. I'd steal him right out of your stories if it wasn't for his obnoxious side. ;)

Another amazing story. I love how John is so proud, when he initially thinks Sherlock is treating him like a charity case. It's a good job that Sherlock knows him so well. A good friend, exactly what John needs :-)

Thoughtful and well paced.

Your writing is always impressive and this one shot is no different. Such a great job showing us John as he goes through a difficult time. Our (yes 'our' despite what Sherlock might want!) poor doctor hates to be out of control. This piece shows how Sherlock truly is a good friend since he asked Mycroft for help. And of course being willing to drive Lestrade away. lol

Aww I love it!

That is a great piece of seasonal writing. Absolutely believable and fits the bill to a tee. Was expecting an mention of John's 'hedgehog' experience, but wasn't needed as plenty of reason to hate the season! And Sherlock's reaction is great too. Love Mycroft's role and everyone acting as they should.
Also feels like a plot in there and not an excuse for some John-bashing—'cos that needs no excuse.
