AWM would call this organic. It's deep, painful and true to the characters.

"He still makes her coffee, after everything she put him through he's still here making her coffee." This basically sums up them and it's perfect. This was really great, sweet and tender and a little angsty cuz she leaves but I can definitely see this happening in the show. Thank you!

"I do," she says without hesitation, lets the duffle bag fall to the ground and grabs both of his hands in hers. "I do love you, Rick. Always, that won't ever change," she hopes he can see in her eyes how honest she is, can feel the desperation in her fingers that she wants nothing more than to put this behind and come back home.

I'm fine except for all the sobbing that's now occurring! But there's hope and it's beautiful.

God, I wish it would have happened that way, even as heartbreaking as watching her walk away again would have been. She gave him a little hope, reassured him that she really does love him still. Hope she really does get to go home soon!

Good vignette!

I think Beckett needs to be honest with herself. "All I do is for us" is not true. Going on this mission is not for them. It is to answer a compulsion within her. It is who she is, as she has said, and her tenacity and love of justice are what drew Castle to her, but the mission is not for them. Neither is leaving him in the dark to protect him. It is because she does not want to risk his life and so does not want his help in this mission. That is for her, not for him. He deserves as much right to make a choice about whether he risks his life as she.

That aside, I love the fact that you have Castle return home while Beckett is still there, and that you give them an evening of being Rick and Kate again. It feels good. The dinner, the kiss, the "I love you"...It all feels like emotional sustenance for them both, that will help them remain connected even while living apart. And Rick takes care of her by seeing that she eats, while she leaves behind a piece of herself for him in that shirt. I loved that in the ep they showed them connecting to one another through scent even though they were apart, and even though they are sharing the evening in your version, I like that Kate takes his shirts to breathe in his scent later while alone, and gifts him with a shirt of hers so that he may do likewise. Still representing connection, a piece of the other carried forward through their separation. Sustenance.
