Guest chapter 4 . 7/5
Lovely!

I know you said you wanted to stick close to the story but I would LOVE more inner thoughts from any/all of the characters.
IDontKnowYourSignal chapter 1 . 6/9
Great idea to fill in the gaps using those scenes that didn’t make the final cut. I remember seeing images of both Georg and Maria staring wistfully out into the night, wondering what might be. You conveyed their thoughts and feelings wonderfully. I especially love Georg asking Agathe for guidance. His wife had such a strong hold over him, it’s hard to imagine he could let her go so easily - even when he’d mended his relationship with the children.
So happy to see you’ve decided to continue - looking forward to reading on!

I like this a lot.

Great chapter, my favourite kinds of stories are ones that stick to the original story but have an added dose of uniqueness to them. There are a couple of spelling errors with the names and you tend to weave between tenses in a couple of places, but it's nothing too major and doesn't take anything away from the story. I loved it and can't wait to see where you take this!

Clare chapter 3 . 6/1
This is a wonderful chapter! I like that you have followed the original timeline/story-line, but then have been brave enough to add a few of your own little twists. And what fab twists they are :) First, I like that you have Liesl confiding in her governess and friend about Rolfe but that when Maria tells the Captain it was just a girly talk and he has nothing to worry about, he doesn't push the issue. That shows how much trust they have developed between them. Second, I like that Maria knows for certain when she looks into the Captain's eyes at the end of their dance that she's in love with him and he with her, because I think that would have been the case, even though she believes it is wrong. And I also like that when the Baroness tells Maria that the Captain couldn't keep his eyes off her, she realises that statement is true and knows she needs to leave, because of her devotion to God and of his to the Baroness. There's no confusion over Maria's feelings, just fear that she's doing something sinful. That's a novel twist and smart writing! Thirdly, I like that Liesl is the one, being the oldest, to warn her father that Louisa and Brigitta think he has feelings for Maria and that he'll need to break the news of Maria's leaving gently. And lastly, I love that Max advises Georg on his woman situation (Lol) and takes the Baroness out of the way so he can talk to his children alone and I also love that Brigitta in her anger is honest with her father and that her father promises not to make any hasty decisions about who to marry without consulting them. You didn't think you could do the som story justice by going AU, but you have done an amazing job here and I can't wait to see what happens next :)

Lovely! I particularly enjoyed the moments between Georg and Liesl, and Friedrick and Brigitta.

It's great to see you back with an update of your story after all these years.
Poor Captain, he is very worried about the situation in Austria. For him, it must have been crushing to see his country falling little by little because of the Nazis.
Also, the children notice everything, and they saw how concerned he is about everything. I loved how you showed us that.
I enjoyed very much this chapter.

not to be rude or anything, but it's spelt "Gretl" not Gretel.

Clare chapter 2 . 5/25
Oh I’m glad you’ve returned, because it would be such a waste to keep your talent hidden :) Missing scenes or AUs from your imagination, I’m sure whatever you posted it would be fab. Your writing is amazing! The Captain realising Josep is the second person to warn him about his behaviour and actions for the sake of his family is so smart. You describe the Captain’s fears about Austria so well, I can sense his torment and his hopelessness as not knowing what to do for the best. It’s interesting that he has decided he’ll leave Austria without Elsa at this point, but if you are sticking to the movie plot, I can only assume he panics once Maria leaves (Maybe he was considering asking her to escape with them to help him with the children) and proposes. I like how you’ve got both the Captain and Maria trying to avoid each other, because they’re aware something too intimate is developing between them. But they always seem to come together in the end and Maria ended up being the only one who he felt comfortable talking to about his problems. Again so smart! And what I find so good about Maria’s little slip of the tongue at the end there is the fact that she cringed when it happened and vowed to put a stop to things. Some people write her as being too naive, but you haven’t fallen into that trap, kudos :) Can’t wait for more.
Clare chapter 1 . 5/23
What a fab start! It's moving that the Captain tells Maria she is part of their family now after listening to what happened to her in her youth :) Their tragic pasts are drawing them closer. No wonder the Baroness is a bit clingy. Smart writing. Hope you return someday soon and post more :) I'm dying to see where this is heading.
