Reviews for Fate: Rule Zero
Guest chapter 15 . 6/9
You know, an easy way to get the White faction out of their fortress would be to have Assassin use chemistry to make some poison gases and plant them around the neighborhood and then call the cops which would make the city get the White faction out of their along with everyone else making them easier targets.
Guest chapter 4 . 6/4
Itsuki reminds me of Proto Rider's master and here he's the brother of Kane from the Track Trio?
Guest chapter 3 . 6/3
There are so many twists in this story now I can barely keep track of them all

And we're only on the third chapter!
Guest chapter 2 . 6/3
You could have gone on Beast's Lair and search through the CaS threads for Ruler Servants, just about any Saint qualifies alongside a number of others, technically Galahad also qualifies for the class as well.
Guest chapter 1 . 6/2
That prologue bit at the end was really good, felt like it came straight out of a trailer with clips and voices
Dante 101 chapter 16 . 7/2/2019
Thank you for your understanding & for responding to my review. So Klaus' storyline is vital for this fic? Can't wait to read what that is. I know that EMIYA doesn't have a place in the story now, it was just a statement on my end. Perhaps for a future Fate story perhaps?

Now I did struggle for the past few days on what exactly to put in my review as it was something that was thought provoking *Grumbles about bunnies* and for the most part, it will focus on characters & I have a LOT to say about them.

It's just wishful thinking ,but with the story has developed so far, perhaps it would be a good idea for it to have its own TV Tropes page. It's really awesome! :) Oh and I will be using TV Tropes as part of my review so maybe it would be something worth considering. :)

Ruler: My main concern as this fic showed glaring errors with her character.

Horrible Judge of Character: In #5, she expresses confusion on how divisive humanity has become & how people are losing their faith in god & how only God can give salvation. What she stated is how humanity has been since its inception & religion is one of the main reasons why people are divided. The HYW was one of the worst conflicts in human history, Jeanne would've known/saw the destructive potential of humanity in that conflict. Yet she believes that God will never forsake anyone? That all people are equal.

This is lampshaded these past few chapters as Ruler herself explicitly stated that all Masters & Servants should have a bond of trust with no exception. I would agree with that, but what Ruler stated is just like asking certain people of certain faiths to get along, some would do so but others won't due how different they are. It doesn't work & it can make a mess...the Master-Servant Relationship is no different. You would think there would be some suspicion that the WF just showed up shortly after Ruler's visit to Kiritsugu. She wondered about Caster of Black's status but when he shows up, Kirei decides to observe the situation himself. Now that can be excused with that Kirei is intelligent but come on Jeanne. Also, there' s something obviously off about Kirei, despite his attempts to hide it, Ruler knows something about it but other than a few talks, she doesn't look into it much further, either because Kirei is that good of an actor or that Ruler can't or won't look into the matter. The fact that Ruler is willing to put her complete faith in Kirei could be seen as admirable but it just shows how naive she is.

Hence, this backs up my previous statement on Ruler's inability to understand humanity as a whole.

Artoria: Her attitude towards Mordred in this chapter was disbelieving. At best she would've tolerated Mordred. At worst, she would've displayed indifference to her. But the hostility and condensation about 'putting Mordred in her place' was OOC for someone who didn't hate Mordred. It's understandable if it was Morgan but Mordred?

Fatal Flaw: Artoria's selflessness was her downfall in life. As King Arthur, she chose to become her ideal of the perfect regent, ruling without surrendering to her emotions and taking every action possible for the good and safety of her kingdom. However her perfectly just rule and emotional distance from the people led to many feeling she was in some way inhuman. This in turn led to civil war started by Mordred, the "son" created by Morgan le Fay whose love she rejected and subsequently allowed to turn to hate, and her death.

Kayneth: Pride: Have you noticed how much he talks during his fights? My gosh, he never shuts up! It's why he lost.

Kirei: The Sociopath: While he is incapable of empathy and eventually accepts that he can only derive joy from the negative emotions of other people, he has a functional conscience and moral compass, thus Kirei has a great deal of remorse over his nature.

Fatal Flaw: He's unable to find any joy or pleasure in anything good, and can only find satisfaction or happiness in the suffering of others. He struggled for a long time to deny this flaw, to work around it, or to correct it. But thanks to Gil...

Feend: From what I heard, he's presumably a powerful Magus to be Master in the HGW as well as possess a catalyst for a Servant as strong as Karna only cements his credentials.

What An Idiot: Given that the WF in it's entirety is attacking & the BF is outnumbered, this would be the time to put aside grudges & unite together.
You'd Expect: That Feend would assist the Black Faction in fighting of the WF.
Instead: He's using the battle in order to topple Kiritsugu & take control of the BF.
The Result: While it hasn't occurred, readers can easily drawn their own conclusions based on this story...that Feend will fail &/or make things worse.
Even Worse: Even if Feend does succeed, he has no immediate strategy to deal with the WF, and since Kiritsugu is the only thing keeping the BF together, his absence will collapse the BF into a complete schism ensuring the WF's victory...

Diarmuid: He can be likeable & he received a sad ending in Zero. His final speech was quite foreshadowing...

Break Them by Talking: Not related but 'Just an Unorthodox Thief' features a main character giving Lancer such a good Breaking Speech about his blind obedience to chivalry that Lancer goes into Lancer has a brief Heroic BSoD. It's cathartic. :)

Extreme Doormat: His pledged service to Kayneth in Zero makes him meekly accept the insults and abuse the former hurled at him even when it wasn't Lancer's fault. The same thing happens with Feend.

Loyal to the Position: Lancer is loyal to his lord no matter who they are or what they do to him or other people. Early on, Rider rightfully expresses valid concerns regarding Feend's behavior & suggests ways that it should be improved on. Lancer's response? Telling Rider, while subtly threatening him not to insult his lord & that he trusts Feend to do what's right. Later on, when Feend threatens Caules, Lancer just stands there & does nothing. When Lancer expresses his doubts regarding his Lords' plan, Feend explains his plan & manipulates Lancer's honor & despite the foolishness of such a plan & his own honor aborning such a plan, Lancer goes ahead with it.

The Fettered: He believes strongly in chivalrous conduct and honourable warfare. Interestingly, the creators stated that it's possible to convince him to fight dirty. If he was willing to do so, he would have gone for hit-and-run attacks with Gae Buidhe to slowly cripple his enemies over time, or manipulate Berserker to do his dirty work for him.

So all of that brings up my question, why the hell was Diarmuid chosen as Lancer? In the end, his relationship with Feend is the same as with Kayneth and it's predictable. Wouldn't Karna have been a better choice? Not only is he the most powerful Servant outside Gil but would've been THE foil for the latter. Even Enkidu would've been a better Lancer instead...

Stray Observations:

* Where the hell are Archer & Berserker of Black? Are they even aware what's happening?
* Nice Job Breaking It Hero: Kiritsugu is now concerned that Caster's actions have brought unwanted scrutiny to the BF from the WF & the Church? Early on, several characters have expressed their concern about the impact Caster's actions were causing but Kiritsugu dismissed them, citing that they couldn't afford to lose Caster. If he had decided to inform the Church about Caster's actions...Really, it's his own fault. So this could also fall into What An Idiot.
* Here's something interesting incase you aren't aware of. Despite his abilities being first rate, Bram didn't succeed as a magus. Having the family crest made him an average magus at best. That was part of the reason why Sola-Ui was pressured to marry Kayneth. This lampshades in Gil's stats...
* Why did Ruler draw her sword? She never did that in life.
*Wouldn't it have been intriguing if Karna was Ruler instead? Perhaps for another story...

Hope this helps.
Nerv-01 chapter 16 . 5/21/2019
by the way I like the kind of hateful relationship between lancer (Arturia) and knowing (Mordred) now if it makes sense that his relationship is a tragedy, the father who hates his son who ruined his plans those of Type / Moon soften some things that really are better: screaming and with 's OK.
Lancelot-07 chapter 16 . 5/21/2019
Do not put alter things, they never made sense, they were the worst part of heaven feel and F / GO. Certainly never kill Kiritsugu and Kirei. He already lets Waver go, he lost. Do more relationship of Iskandar and Kanett, they were what I liked the most.
