Reviews for The return of Red October
D1NGORED chapter 5 . 5/16
Don't know if you will see this but having just found the story I felt like I had to comment. This whole idea has been really cool to see unfold. Watching Red begin to integrate with the local ship girls has been a pleasure. Hopefully at some point you will pick this up again as I look forward to seeing this idea expand into a story proper and flesh out the universe a bit.

A very amusing story to sat the least. Thanks for sharing.
Komrade Kamarov chapter 3 . 7/18/2016
I now see where you're going with former Los Angeles class. How dumb of me. My forgiveness, LtJG. By the way, when does this story take place?
Komrade Kamarov chapter 2 . 7/18/2016
Good, but assuming that this takes place in 1985, Captain Bart Mancuso would likely be a Rear Admiral lower half (O-7). As far as the boats go, you've clearly done your homework. Good job, Ensign, or should I say, Lieutenant Junior Grade?
Komrade Kamarov chapter 1 . 7/17/2016
This is a good story, but there are a few thing wrong. First of all, USS Dallas is not a person's name. A person's name is something like Bart Mancuso. I can see where you're going though. USS Dallas is the name of a boat. The Dallas is a submarine, and is therefore a boat. The Dallas has always been a Los Angeles class SSN (Fast-attack Submarine, Nuclear). She is scheduled to leave service in 2017.

Secondly, there were no treaties against SSBNs (Ballistic Missile Submarine, Nuclear) themselves. The treaties against SSBNs actually limit the number of nuclear warheads one sub could possess. For example, the Ohios carried 24 SLBMs with twelve warheads each. The total was 288 warheads to one Ohio. That total has since dropped to 192 warheads on 24 missiles. Each missile has eight warheads.

Third, in the novel, Red October had a hydrojet drive.
In the movie, she had a Magnetohydrodynamic drive.
The US Navy actually messed around with something similar a couple of years ago, but couldn't get it to work. "They actually built this. This isn't a mock-up."-Skip Tyler

Keep up the good work!

Why not use the following patrol ships in your next story. USS Pegasus (PHM-1) and her five sister ships. As well as the USS Tucumcari (PGH-2) as well as the USS Plainview (AGEH-1).

and don't forget the old Eagle-class patrol ships from the WWI era.

Keep up the good work!

OBSERVER01 chapter 4 . 4/4/2016
Quite good
Wolfman-053 chapter 4 . 2/15/2016
Halsey's not just going to be pissed about this, she's going to be mega-pissed...
Thorthemighty321 chapter 4 . 2/14/2016
That blatant The Mighty Jingles reference. "It's that bloody boat game again"

Still the silent drive once again stumps everyone. I swear not many Surface Ships would know of its weakness. Maybe Kennedy but IDK.

Still let me guess what is next, a prank on Big D thanks to her former chief SONAAR operator? The man who kept a Nat Geo map of all the routes the Soviets use.
Starfox5 chapter 4 . 2/14/2016
Good chapter. Love the antics of the subs.
Sky EXE chapter 3 . 2/7/2016
Reading through this several times has made me pull out my DVD of the movie and watch it several times over.

Ahh, the nostalgia of watching my favorite movie of all time. I'm looking forward to more.
Celestia's Paladin chapter 3 . 1/30/2016
Definitely am odd one, though she did serve with honor and got her people home, even if the home in question wasn't in Russia.

Great now I'm picturing Dallas and Red showing up in the city of Dallas and at the park they're planing on showing USS Dallas once she is decommissioned
