I LOVED THIS SO MUCH! It totally made sense to me, plus you did a great job writing it! It flowed really nicely, and the character voices were spot on. I’m always impressed when someone can write a young Sora well. Awesome job!

I loved this story and your take on Sora and Van! Plus the way his mother was involved was fantastic as well. Definitely kudos. This was worth the read!

Firstly, I have not a one criticism for this story. You write wonderfully, and do a terrific job with the different point of views. Seriously, your writing always blows me away.

I've liked every chapter in this story, but especially loved this last one. It was so interesting, giving a peak into what Ventus as well as Kairi were doing when the islands were engulfed in darkness. And poor Sora's mom. It's really nice to see someone writing about her in all of this too.

I greatly look forward to reading the epilogue. And also like the idea of your sequel. Great job as always!

You're actually closer to canon than you think. IIRC, Sora originally gets his keyblade from Riku, but inherits the ability to wield it from Ventus. at the end of KH I, the keyblade that originally belonged to Riku officially chooses Sora. He gains the ability to dual-wield because of Ventus - he wields Ventus' keyblade as well as his own. This also explain's Roxas' dual-wielding - he wields Sora's keyblade along with Ventus' too.

Fudge mate, I was looking through my inbox and didn't believe my eyes. But there it was. *pets update on screen, tears in my eye* so bootiful. Last update was around my birthday, so yeah Christmas seems suitable for the next one. It's okay if it's coming to a close, I may hate to see it go, but I'd rather a successful conclusion, than beating a dead horse. I'm ending one of my own fanfics, and I'm telling you, it's hard. This fanfic is literally one of my favorites I would recommend it a billion times if I could asdfghjk.
I get that Sora and Ventus are tight bros, yo, and are pretty close, but you'd think that if they were close to becoming one, they'd have the same beat. But maybe it's the fact that they're close you can really even hear it in the first place? I enjoy the thought of a cute Sora sitting on a doctor's chair, legs swinging back and forth, content with life and a smile on his face, and Ventus being happy purely because Sora is happy. Sora's heart probably isn't really fast, well, much faster than a young person's heart, (Which is proven to be faster normally than an adult's) anyways, but it seems that way because Ventus' heart is the same beat as Sora's just not at the same time. Like having two of the same YouTube videos, but pressing start on one later than the other. Same video, different time, yeah feel me? I imagine in scenes where Ven is prominent that a ghost version if him is beside Sora, the two of them happily sprawled out in the sand beside each other. A part of Sora just /understands/ that Ventus really isn't there, so he doesn't really talk with him or anything, but knows of him. He isn't really a distraction to Sora, because he just gets it.
Sora, when it comes to Ven’s memories, is probably how I’d imagine Roxas’ memories work (now that they’re shared with Sora). He’d be having a normal conversation with maybe Kairi and bring up one of Roxas’ memories with the misconception they’re his own. Kairi would raise an eyebrow, saying how she doesn’t remember that. He’d be confused for a moment, and then say something along the lines of “Wait, that might’ve been Roxas’ memories, nevermind.” and then just continue on normally. Kairi probably wouldn’t understand, seeing as Sora is the type who wouldn’t have had told them. It’s not that he’s purposefully withholding the information, or he doesn’t think it’s important: just that he doesn’t really see the need to. Most of the time, he even forgets about the fact he has access to Roxas’ memories. It’s like someone changing the paint of their room and when a friend comes over and points it out, you just shrug, admitting that it was repainted and carry on. Sora in the beginning mentions Terra nonchalantly in place of Riku, because of Ven’s influence. He admits he was wrong for mistaking the two and can describe Terra to Riku. He probably doesn’t know a lot about Terra, just of him. He’s accessing Ventus’ memories not consciously, but in the way that you’re in a grocery aisle, and you pass by the tomatoes, remembering “oh yeah I need more tomatoes”.
What I don't get, is when Ven is asleep Sora forgets, right? But then Sora tells his mom that Ventus isn't there - remembering his existence - and later has a short conversation with *just ripped a kids' heart in two* Ventus? Also, it's fine if both of their thoughts are in italics, if anything, it's more confusing that Ven's thoughts aren't in italics. I usually use bold for Sora's Thoughts, Underline for Vanitas', and Italics for Roxas and Ventus, but hey whatever works.
Can't wait for more!

Near the end? Aww no! I've really enjoyed this story or doesn't feel like it's quite ready to come to an end :-( I do hope you'll write more like this.

"Vanitas" can also mean "emptiness" in Latin.
Fun fact: it is also the Latin root word of "vanity."
Second Fun fact: in the KH series they are mispronouncing the word. Latin does this thing where "V" is a sort of "W" sound. So instead of "Vah-nee-tus" it should be something along the lines of "wah-nih-toss."
